Elizabeth Mitchell plays FBI agent Erica Evans on ABC's new, revamped version of V. Spoiler alert: In the very first episode, she faces off in a battle between humans and Visitors. Further spoiler alert: She'll kick even more butt as the series continues.
"I just read [the next script], and there is more kick-ass action," Mitchell said in a group interview on Aug. 8 in Pasadena, Calif., as part of the Television Critics Association fall press tour. "I've said this, and I don't know if they want me to say this, but I like it even better than the pilot. I was happy to have read it before I came here, because when you just do a pilot you're talking about unknowns. You're talking about something ephemeral, and you can't quite get there. I've read it. It's active. It's not cerebral. It's so active that you find yourself caught up in it, and it made me very happy."
Mitchell was also getting ready to reshoot the fight scene from the pilot. Previously, SCI FI Wire reported that producer Scott Peters wanted to add more elements to the visitors' combat. Mitchell will get to improve her technique as well.
"I wasn't as skilled a fighter as I am now, so my punch looked a little bit like a 12-year-old girl's," she joked. "I don't think that's why [they're reshooting], but they wanted it to be more dangerous, they wanted it to be higher-tech. They wanted the guys to look sincerely terrifying when they were coming after us, and they wanted them to have more gadgets, and they do."
V still tells the story of aliens who visit Earth and at first offer to be humanity's allies. They cure our diseases and offer free tours of their spaceship. Fans of the '80s series already know the visitors turn out to be lizard creatures under their attractive exterior. Agent Evans is onto them early on and pursues a human resistance, while other characters explore the religious and media implications of the visitors.
Playing an action heroine has also improved Mitchell's performance, the actor added. "I love strong women," she said. "I love, love, love it. I find when all of that is happening, you don't think that much, and not thinking as an actor is really good. I tend to overthink things, so when I'm running around gasping for air and beating people up, whatever is happening in my face I have no control over."
Erica has bigger problems than just saving the world, though. Her own son, Tyler (Logan Huffman), defies her parenting rules. Now she's actually warning him about falling in with the alien threat, not just coming home before curfew.
"I just read the next episode, and she tries very hard to do that," Mitchell said. "She makes herself incredibly clear and believes all is well. He, I think, has been a kid who has in the past listened to her, so I think that she thinks that that's going to be the case again. She's a good mom, a single mom, and it was nice playing a mother. I did it before in Frequency, but to do it to this magnitude, where my son is in grave danger, is fascinating to me."
The new V differs from the original in many aspects. They get to the big reveal quicker and have a longer-term plan for the invasion than the 1984 miniseries. There are new characters and modern updates, but Mitchell holds the original in high regard.
"I also feel a tremendous obligation to the people who watched before to not mess it up," she said. "So, yes, the memories do come back. However, my character didn't really exist, is a compilation of other characters, therefore I'm given a little bit of a gift in not having to fill the footsteps that Morena [Baccarin] is having to do. Which, by the way, she does really beautifully and completely differently, which is so nice. But I have a little bit of a gift here. I'm able to really love the old and not feel bad about being in the new, so it's good."
V premieres Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

BURBANK, Calif. — The FBI agent and his wife's apparent future lover just miss crossing paths in the hospital hallway. They don't meet, but what if they had?
Would it block his wife's path to infidelity? Or would it guarantee it?
The underlying question — can you change your future? — is at the heart of ABC's FlashForward (Sept. 24, 8 ET/PT), among the most-awaited new fall TV series, and one that some are calling the next Lost.
The premise centers on a two-minute, 17-second blackout that strikes the world's population, followed by crashes, deaths and other disasters that result from the global unconsciousness. During the blackout, almost everyone has a vision — a flash-forward — six months ahead, to April 29, 2010. 10 p.m. PT, to be exact. Some are welcome, and some, including the wife's vision of the lover, are not.
The task is to find out what happened and if the flash-forward prophecies will, or must, come to pass.
"We are the only species that thinks about the future," says executive producer David Goyer, whose writing credits include Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. "It's the blessing and curse of being human."
Joseph Fiennes, who plays FBI agent Mark Benford, centers a team assigned to solve the blackout that includes partner Demetri Noh (John Cho); colleague Janis Hawk (Christine Woods); and their boss, Stanford Wedeck (Courtney B. Vance). They and the other characters, including Benford's surgeon wife, Olivia (Sonya Walger), share their visions, but viewers see only bits and pieces at first, leaving twists and turns to be explored.
And "some people lie about their flash-forwards, so it's a little misdirection happening," Vance says. "It leaves the writers enormous latitude to tell stories."
Of fall's new shows, FlashForward most closely fits the definition of the serialized epic, a sweeping tale mixing action, suspense, mystery, romance and melodrama. "It's a buffet," executive producer Marc Guggenheim (Eli Stone) says. "To reach the widest audience possible, you need to have that spice. You have to have that wide variety."
The best current example of the big, bold serialized mystery: ABC hit Lost. Fox's 24 incorporates many of those elements, though each season is self-contained. Fox's paranormal Fringe tries to temper its serialized elements, mixing long-term story with shorter, weekly ones. And ABC launches a remake of alien-invasion serial V in November.
The challenging format tends to demand more dedication from viewers, who may not want to make the time commitment, especially when there is no guarantee a show will reach its conclusion. It includes many recent failures, some of them noble, such as The Nine and Jericho, and even critically acclaimed successes Lost and 24 have hit bumps. NBC's Heroes, which tries to balance serialization with stand-alone volumes, was a big early hit but has since slumped.
Quick answers to questions
Goyer and Guggenheim say they are making the show as they want to, but their customized format — many character stories that wrap up in one episode, quick answers to major questions and a simplified but not dumbed-down mythology — also may make it appeal to a broader audience and casual viewers. "It's not that kind of show where if you don't catch it at the beginning you'll be lost," Vance says.
At the same time, more devoted fans will be rewarded with numerous little clues and hidden references. "You'll come across the true genius that is David Goyer, which is these Easter eggs," Fiennes says. "There's so much information that you could certainly go crazy trying to work it all out."
As another viewing incentive, Goyer promises to resolve virtually all questions raised in the pilot by this season's end. "We made the commitment very early on to answer some big questions and have some reveals very early. The audience will be surprised at some of the cards we turn over that early."
ABC has an interest in series that are "something epic in scope but also really emotional," network executive vice president Suzanne Patmore-Gibbs says. Characters must be at the core, she says, whether the serialized program is Lost,Grey's Anatomyor FlashForward.
Goyer likes mixing large and small. "One of the things I like to do is take a big, broad subject matter and see if you can work it through this intimate prism with characters who humanize what would normally be what some would call an E-ticket ride. I think we were able to do that with the Batman movies, and I feel that's what we're doing here."
He and Guggenheim are Lost fans, citing the Emmy-winning hit's groundbreaking nature as one reason they thought ABC would be a good place for their series. ABC hopes Lost fans connect with FlashForward.
"Lost is ending this year and hopefully going out with a bang. There's an audience base that's going to be craving another nuanced experience, and it would be nice to win some of those audience members," Patmore-Gibbs says. But she and others point out large differences between Lost and FlashForward, which was inspired by Robert Sawyer's novel of the same name and in planning before Lost was created. (The TV series veers far from the book, producers say.)
"It's not like we're going to unearth layers and layers that are more sci-fi or layers and layers of mythology. So I think it's easier to access in some ways," Patmore-Gibbs says.
Walger, who has had a recurring role on Lost, considers it "a huge compliment being (mentioned) in the same breath as Lost. (But) I think the similarity begins and ends with big ensemble casts."
FlashForward has a large, diverse ensemble — 11 series regulars, including Lost's Dominic Monaghan, and guest stars from around the world — that opens the door to many individual stories, both professional and personal. To be a TV series rather than a movie, FlashForward had to be about more than blackouts and flash-forwards, says Cho, who also visited the future in this year's Star Trek film.
"We couldn't hang our hats on that big concept. It had to be about relationships and how it affected everyone's lives. That, to me, was the hook," he says.
On the largest soundstage on the Disney studios lot, one usually reserved for feature films, some character stories — and bits of police and medical drama — are intersecting at Olivia's hospital when Mark and his FBI colleagues arrive. She has just saved a series regular who was injured in an attack resulting from their investigation.
"Mark has this guilt, but at the same time he feels vindicated that the clues are paying off," Fiennes says.
The 'what-if?' element
Of FlashForward's many elements, those involved with the series say science fiction may be the least. It also happens to be a genre label that turns off some viewers who might otherwise give a series or movie a try.
The show's science-fiction component is limited to the blackout and flash-forwards, if that, the producers say, with Goyer suggesting the ultimate cause may not even be in the realm of that genre. He describes the look forward as a "what if?" rather than science fiction, akin to Scrooge's glimpse of the future in A Christmas Carol.
While FlashForward's characters see bits of the future, Goyer and Guggenheim know it all, as in how the series ends.
"In a post-Lost world, when you take a pilot to the networks, they ask, 'Do you have any idea where it goes?' " Goyer says. "As a viewer, I would feel frustrated if the show creators don't know where they're going."
They have plotted the series out, a difficult task when it isn't known how long it will run. Goyer says they have loosely planned it for five seasons, could tell it in three, if necessary, or could "accordion it out" to run longer than five. Besides the ending, they say they know how the penultimate season concludes.
"They have had a destination in mind the whole time, knowing how hard it is when you don't," Patmore-Gibbs says. She notes Lost has benefited from having a fixed ending point, though no one suggested FlashForward might follow a similar plan.
The series can expand on a character or story if it breaks out in a big way. In the pilot, Benford encounters a kangaroo on a downtown L.A. street after the blackout. "It was something intended as a grace note. I didn't expect it to get quite the response it has," Goyer says. He and Guggenheim have made sure the Australian interloper will return.
"We've altered stuff along the way, as we've refined and gotten a better handle on things," Guggenheim says. "Something happens in the 11th episode of the show that had been planned for Episode 18, or even later."
But what happens after Season 1's last episode? If FlashForward answers nearly all the questions in the pilot by the season's end, what will be left for next year?
"I hope people ask that," Goyer says. "In some ways, I can't wait to get there. It's going to be more exciting than Season 1."

Sonya Walger
Thanks to Magic Box for the heads up.
IGN TV: FlashForward has a pretty bold concept. What was your reaction to it initially?
Sonya Walger: Oh, I flipped for it. I thought it was just such an outstanding piece of writing. I rang my agents immediately and was like, "How do we make this happen? What do I have to do? I'll audition for anyone you need me to audition for. I will jump through any hoops. I just want to play this part."
IGN: How would you describe your character?
Walger: Olivia is a strong, complicated woman who's a working mother. She's a trauma surgeon and a loving wife. She's devoted to her work and trying to make time for her kid. Olivia's plate is full long before the flash forward happens I think.
IGN: [FlashForward Executive Producer] David Goyer has said he plays things pretty close to the vest as far as not telling you guys what's going to happen. Do you try to get him or the other writers to reveal anything?
Walger: Not really, unless I really need it – unless I feel like I can't play the scene without a particular piece of information. But otherwise, I'm very happy just to go with what I have. There's enough on the page – the scripts are so well written. There's plenty to play, without needing to pry more secrets out of them.
IGN: Now that you've filmed a few episodes, has it been interesting to see how they've begun to lay out these puzzle pieces, aiming towards the place we saw you in in your flash forward?
Walger: It's wonderful. It's so exciting. So exciting watching the show spread out in such unexpected ways. The ripple effect of these premonitions and where they take us is really wonderful.
IGN: You've said you really don't know what role you may or may not play in Lost this year. It being the final season, are you hoping to be able to give Penny some kind of closure?
Walger: Oh, I'd love to! I'd absolutely love to but I would fully understand if they can't work it out. So either way…
IGN: I wanted to ask you about the Lost episode, "The Constant." I know I'm not alone in thinking that's one of the very best episodes of the show. When you were filming it, did you know it was something special?
Walger: Oh, it was such a great script. It really was. And Jack Bender directed it so beautifully. But I had no idea that it would turn out as well as it did and no idea it would turn out to be an episode that people responded to so warmly. I'm delighted and honored to have an episode that gets singled out.
IGN: With Desmond and Penny, there aren't that many scenes featuring the two of you throughout the entire course of the series, and yet I think many fans would say that's among their favorite relationships on Lost. I assume that has to be very gratifying.
Walger: Sure! It's lovely. It's lovely to think that people are invested in that way in our characters. Because you say, it's not like we had a lot of screen time, but it's been fun!
IGN: On FlashForward, have you had any scenes with Dominic yet?
Walger: No, not yet.
IGN: On Lost, you were involved in another very memorable moment – Charlie's death – but I assume you didn't even shoot anything with Dominic [Monaghan] since Penny was only on the video screen.
Walger: No, I met him for the first time on FlashForward!
IGN: I assume that's another case where you hear from Lost fans about how meaningful that "Not Penny's boat" scene is to them.
Walger: Yeah, I've heard that a lot – about how important and seminal that scene was. It was lovely to meet him, but it was just like meeting any other actor. It was a nice introduction! [Laughs]
IGN: Having originally signed on just for a single episode guest appearance on Lost, has it been a strange ride, entering into this world with such a rabid fanbase and such a dense mythology? I'm guessing you are asked questions you would have no way of knowing the answer to.
Walger: Yeah, sure, but honestly it's been fine. I've been quite protected from the whole Lost phenomenon, because I'm not one of the core cast. So I haven't had to do the press junkets that they have. If I deal with questions, it's just from someone in the street, and it's always lovely to have people want to come up and talk about the work. So I've been pretty protected from the whole thing.
IGN: Are you getting prepared for the fact that FlashForward is likely to be one of those show that will have fans asking so many specific questions?
Walger: Listen, if we have an 18th of the success that Lost has, it will be a lovely thing. I won't complain! It will be great.

Last fall, Rebecca Mader left LOST and went off to film "The Men Who Stare at Goats," a comedy starring George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges, about the true story of the U.S. military's efforts to create psychic warriors whose abilities include the power to kill goats with their minds. Well, the trailer is now online, and we do technically see Rebecca Mader... for about half a second. Care to guess how much we see George Clooney?

The project centers on a lonely woman (Diaz) whose seemingly harmless blind date suddenly turns her life upside-down when a super spy (Cruise) takes her on a violent worldwide journey to protect a powerful battery that holds the key to an infinite power source.
Grace is playing Diaz's sister, who is getting married, excited that Diaz will take the place of their late father and walk her down the aisle.
Mangold's partner Cathy Konrad is producing with Todd Garner, Steve Pink and Joe Roth.
Grace has been on fire since starring as Liam Neeson's daughter in "Taken," which has raked in more than $224 million worldwide.
She recently wrapped playing the female lead opposite Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker in Sony's "The Experiment" and is shooting "Flying Lessons." The indie is being exec produced by Mark Johnson.
Grace, repped by ICM and 1 Management, will shoot the thriller in October in Boston.

In what will be one of the premier events in Hawaii International Film Festival’s storied history, HIFF and ABC-TV are joining hands for a multi-tier, marathon Lost event that will include open-to-the-public seminars with cast, crew and executives, an in-depth, two-hour discussion in the evening of the hit show’s progression over the last five years that includes a question-and-answer segment with at least two of the show’s producers followed by an invitation-only after party. Video clips and other visual media likely will be used during the discussions…
The fundraiser events will be Saturday, Oct. 17 at as-yet-to-be-determined venue. The evening event will be 7-9 p.m. Details of who will be attending, where there events will be held, and event costs are being discussed. But this unprecedented event honoring Lost and with unparalled access to Lost crew and above-the-line execs is expected to attract domestic and international media and attendees. Lost joins Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum, P.I. as being synonymous with mega successful Hawaii productions that have not only spend hundreds of millions of dollars here but brought immense publicity to the aloha State…
The Saturday Master Classes may begin as early as noon led by key Lost crew and execs that the public normally does not have access to…
This is Lost’s sixth and final season. The series is scheduled to air from February to May 2010. (Sources say Matthew Fox is the only cast member who knows the ending of the show so get your questions ready.) HIFF proposed the idea to Lost executives weeks ago “and they jumped at it,” said Chuck Boller, HIFF director. Prior to the evening event will be a private meet and greet cocktail party with Lost execs and actors at a Waikiki beachfront hotel…
Since the production plans to auction off nearly every prop used on the show at season’s end, ABC will preview some of the items at various this and other HIFF events.

Thanks to GregDean for the following
M.C Gainey, AKA Mr. Tom Friendly, has a new movie coming out called "All About Steve," which stars Sandra Bullock, Thomas Haden Church and two of the stars of "The Hangover," Bradley Cooper and Ken Jeong. Both of the glimpses of M.C. Gainey are in a semi truck with Sandra Bullock, at the 1:11 and 1:41 marks. We can't see him in this trailer, but DJ Qualls, who played Hurley's friend, Johnny, is also in "All About Steve." Considering how many people that are in the movie that are not seen in the trailer, actually, that we get two good glimpses of M.C. Gainey suggests that his role in the movie might be significant.

Revised Box Art for LOST - The Complete 5th Season: DI Kit

In early July we showed off a first look at Lost - The Complete 5th Season: Dharma Initiation Kit, the special limited-edition collector's package that will be available on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats. These come out on December 8th, the same day as the standard-packaged versions ship on DVD and Blu-ray.
Over the weekend one of our retailer contacts sent us an updated look at the packaging for the "Dharma Initiation Kit" set. It's not truly a surprise to get the revised artwork, because the previous image was labeled "subject to change". Some of the changes are quite interesting, however: there's an additional disc shown in the set, but not in a "floppy disc" sleeve as the first five are. Instead, the new one resembles a vinyl record sticking out of its sleeve, for the single of a song titled "Dharma Lady" from the fictional (or are they? producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have insisted the band is real, however obscure) '70s musical group "Geronimo Jackson". That's a band which fans of Lost should recall coming up in various episodes, in various ways (an album found in "the hatch", on posters, t-shirts, etc.).
Another change is the addition of a new patch, of the type that would be seen on Dharma jumpsuits. In addition to the patches already shown for "The Lamp Post" and for the Cafeteria section of the Barracks, there is now a third patch containing the logo of the submarine, The Galaga. Additionally, there have been some tweaks made in the coloring and layout of some of the materials shown, and the map seen under the patches is now a "finished" map rather than the crude hand-drawn map shown in the previous picture. Finally, the outer box has been finalized, with the same concept (of beat-up corrugated cardboard) as before, but even better.
Please note that we've checked with our contacts at the studio itself, and they confirm that this is the DVD artwork for the "Dharma Initiation Kit" release, and that the Blu-ray version of this kit hasn't had artwork released yet. We're sure it will look similar to this, however. We've got the "beauty shot" to show you first, with the updated look at the entire package and its contents. Below that are a few close-ups of various portions of that picture, so you can get a better look at some of it. At the bottom is the new close-up of the outer package. Enjoy!

New Michael Emerson Interview

Interviews,
Michael Emerson
Thanks to The ODI and Donna for the heads up.
Ben Linus has become one of television's most enigmatic bad guys - creepy stare and all. If only the guy who plays him on Lost had an Emmy to show for it.
The TV-equivalent of the Oscars is a month away and once again, actor Michael Emerson is up for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series. Emerson's been there before - twice.
Nominated for his role as the former leader of the Others, Emerson lost to Lost co-star Terry O'Quinn in 2007 and to Zeljko Ivanek of Damages last year. So will it be third-time lucky for him?
"I think it may be enough honour to be nominated," he said carefully over the phone during a teleconference last week. "Anyone who has a career long enough on television to get nominated for an Emmy has succeeded on some level, and that's great for me."
Emerson and the cast are back in Hawaii, heading into production for what would be the show's sixth and final season.
The fifth season is currently showing on AXN Beyond.
Before joining Lost in 2006, Emerson's biggest TV role was as a guest star on The Practice back in 2001, playing William Hinks (which, incidentally, won him an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Star).
The 55-year-old theatre actor is surprised by the success of his character. Fans say they like Ben's damaged moral ambiguity - you're not sure whether he's really bad or not. It's a common trait found in several of Emerson's characters, such as Hinks or Zep Hindle in the Saw movies.
"I'm playing it like I would any sort of ambiguous villain," he said. "You want to engage the audience and place them in a morally ambiguous position - both irritating and fascinating in equal measures... It would be fine with me if the show ended and no one still knew if Ben was a bad guy or a hero."
While Emerson is sad to see the series end, he's glad Lost has left its footprint on television history - Emmy or not.
"There have been so many shows that have employed this sort of serial, spectacle, adventure, science fiction format, and... trying to reinvent the magic that was created with Lost."
Besides, he said, it's been fun - despite the show's grave and dramatic demeanour.
"Yes, the show is heavy... (but) we end up cracking each other up a lot. It's a humorous state of camaraderie. I mean, we take our work seriously, and the acting is at a fairly high level. But you know, when you've been up since 4am and you've worked 14 hours, things can get a little goofy late at night," said Emerson.
"Sometimes I think the best scenes are the ones where we're literally obliterated with fatigue!"

Thanks to GregDean for the following.
The red band (adults only) trailer for the upcoming movie "Legion" is online now. Legion is an ensemble horror/fantasy action movie about a war between the Angels (over an unborn child that can save humanity), with Michael (Paul Bettany) and a small group of humans on one side and Gabriel (Kevin Durand) and a horde of angels on another. Kevin Durand as Gabriel doesn't show up until the final third of the trailer, but after that, we see a lot of him.

Hey All,
I was flipping the channels and started watching Who Wants to be a Millionaire tonight and much to my surprise one of the categories was LOST!!
So I kept watching in hopes the contestant would make it to that question! It was worth $100,000 and I was super curious what the question would be!?
Unfortunately the guy ummmm lost on the question right before and we were all denied the chance at seeing the question.
Well at least ABC did some good cross promotion!
Here is a picture I took of my TV screen.
Did any of you see this and sit there like me waiting for that question to be revealed!?

LOST Actor and Dharma Member Eric Lange who played the infamous Radzinsky has just been cast to play the role of the lawyer who took down Dr. Jack Kevorkian in the HBO Biopic "You Don't Know Jack".
Who plays Kevorkian you ask? None other than superstar Al Pacino! Also cast in the movie are Susan Sarandon and John Goodman.
I am happy for Lange who I felt did a wonderful job as Radzinsky even though man fans hated his character for being such an ass to the Losties. The really big kick is that his character's name in the movie is Skrzynski!
No Losties it is not an Easter Egg! :)
You can see more info about the movie here: You Don't Know Jack on IMDB

My Favorite Weekend: Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje

Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje isn't shy about touting his latest film project, "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," opening citywide today.
"I think this is the movie of the summer," said the actor, born in London to Nigerian parents. "It's going to be a blast, man. It's one of those high-octane, high-impact joy rides. That's what we need right now -- a blockbuster that delivers.
"I play a character named Heavy Duty. He's a weaponry expert. Anything about guns, he's your man. But he's also the sergeant of the bunch, and he recruits, he trains, he head-hunts -- he makes sure the job gets done with no muss, no fuss."
Next Friday you can also catch him on a special episode of USA Network's "Monk," and there's another tantalizing possibility on the horizon: a whispered-about return for Season 6 of "Lost." Akinnuoye-Agbaje appeared in 28 episodes as Mr. Eko during the 2005-06 seasons.
"There have been discussions," he acknowledged, "and I will say this: It wouldn't be something I'd be averse to."
1. Crustacean Beverly Hills
I have an African palate and a spicy Mediterranean palate, so a lot of the dishes I crave you can't just buy anywhere, so I've out of necessity learned to cook. And I love to cook -- it makes me feel like I really belong in the place, like I'm home. But there are a few places I can go where I can get some of my favorite dishes. First of all, I don't eat meat, only fish. One of my favorite spots is Crustacean in Beverly Hills. They have a plethora of fish, and it's quite fantastic. It's probably my No. 1 choice. I order almost a seafood feast -- I get shrimp, lobster, swordfish and tuna.
2. Ngoma Miracle Mile
If I want to go spicier, I'll lean to Ngoma, a kind of Nigerian-Caribbean place.
3. Veronica's Kitchen Inglewood
And if I want to really go completely native, you'll find me right down there in the hood at Veronica's Kitchen, which is a traditional Nigerian restaurant.
4. Merkato Fairfax District
If I want to change it all up a little, I'll try an Ethiopian restaurant on Fairfax called Merkato. As far as my favorite dish of all, it would probably be egusi, which has spinach in it and is healthy, but it can also be quite fattening, so I don't eat too much of it. You can get it both at Ngoma and Veronica's.
5. Toast Bakery Cafe Fairfax District
Breakfast is where my cross-culture comes in, because for dinner I lean toward African, but for breakfast I'll be very European, British or really Californian as well. If I eat African food for breakfast, I won't get much done because I'll be sleeping all day. So I'll get egg whites, the fresh-squeezed OJ, the hash browns, and I've got to have my oatmeal or granola. My favorite breakfast restaurant is probably Toast on 3rd. Very clean, fresh and healthy.
6. Nobu Malibu
For a big date on Saturday night, I'd go to Nobu. If I was hoping to get romantic with her, I'd take her to the one in Malibu, because it's a whole-night thing out there, and the sea air just knocks them out, that's it. But if she needs some work, I'd go to the one on La Cienega. That way, even if she's a pain, there would be other beautiful options there. After dinner, we'd go to the movies. I love the old black-and-white films.
7. Simon L.A. Los Angeles County
Then after that we'd go chat at the lounge-bar at the Sofitel, where you can also have a dance too.
8. Hyde Lounge West Hollywood
Then we might pop into Hyde
9. Les Deux Hollywood
or maybe Les Deux.
10. Santa Monica Pier Santa Monica
I'm a Soka Gakkai Buddhist, and we have some places in the Los Angeles area, like Santa Monica and Venice, and that's where you might find me on a Sunday. We chant for hours and reach a transcendental state. That really kicks off my day. Then I'd probably get on a bike and spend the rest of the afternoon at Marina del Rey, or Santa Monica and Venice. I'll do the whole course with my headphones on. Or if I don't bike, I'll take my kayak out and just spend the day out on the water. That's a beautiful Sunday to me.

J.J. Abrams and 'The Dark Tower'

Carlton Cuse,
Damon Lindelof,
Dark Tower,
JJ Abrams
Stephen King's The Dark Tower series of novels are probably his most underrated, and that can mostly be attributed to the fact that it took him 22 years to finish the series. It's a sprawling epic story, starring The Gunslinger, Roland, and his companions as they are inexorably drawn towards the titular Dark Tower. Like The Lord of the Rings, it's a travel story, with all of the action happening during the journey itself.
If you haven't read the series, I can't recommend it highly enough. It's got gunslinging, swords and sorcery, time travel, interdimensional doorways, artificially intelligent monorails, and so much more. It also ties most of King's major novels together in bizarre ways, without getting boring. Either pick up the first book in the series and check it out, or listen to the audiobook during your commute. You won't be sorry.
Just do it before J.J. Abrams and his Lost crew begin making the movies. Wait, what's that? Abrams? Lost? The Dark Tower? Read on to see how all of these pieces will soon fit together to produce what some claim is destined to become the next Lord of the Rings.
Right now you're probably thinking: "If this is so great, where's the movie version already?" No worries, you're not alone ... and you might be in luck. J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof (co-creator of Lost) have reportedly purchased the rights to the entire Dark Tower series from King himself for $19.00 -- unique because the numner 19 recurs throughout the novels. King must be an enormous Abrams fan, because he already turned down Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Mist), who was interested in adapting the series himself.
King has quite a history with Abrams, Lindelof, and Carlton Cuse (Lost), and the Lostpedia fansite for ABC's Lost has an entire Stephen King section. In fact, there's a theory linking The Dark Tower to events on the television show, and reading the books it's quite easy to see how they inspired the Lost creators in more ways than one. It's enough to completely thrill the conspiracy theorist in anyone. King entered into talks with Abrams and crew over two years ago, and it looks like the group could roll right into production on The Dark Tower once Lost wraps up (the final season airs in 2010).
Lindelof recently told Lostpedia, "We're just so focused on finishing Lost that it's really hard to think about anything else. The last thing we want to think about is how to adapt a seven book series of, you know, basically the writer who we admire the most and look up to most and has inspired our work the most, and do anything with that." Hopefully that's just exhaustion talking. With Lost they've been crafting the story themselves, but The Dark Tower is already laid out.
He goes on to say that he sees the scope of the films as on par with Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings series, although I personally think they probably wouldn't adapt all seven novels into films. Still, the fact that they're not rushing a version to the screen gives me hope that this will be treated with respect, and it has the potential to change the face of fantasy films, which almost completely vanished from theaters once LotR wrapped up. There's been a few fits and starts, with Disney's Narnia series and other films, but nothing approaching the scale of Rings.
The Dark Tower books bounce from downtown New York in multiple time periods and a complete fantasy world, amongst other locations, in a sort of modern day Wizard of Oz fashion. With Abrams now behind the extremely successful Star Trek reboot, I'd like to see what he could do with a fantasy film. Especially if they don't make any severe alterations to the story. Marvel Comics released a prequel comic book adaptation starting back in 2007, and it fumbled the excellent source material.
Hopefully, that will change once everyone can get Lost out of their heads. In the meantime, check out the books. They make a great summer read.
What do you Dark Tower fans think? Are J.J. Abrams and his Lost cronies the right men to take on the monster that is Stephen King's Dark Tower series?

Thanks to Flyer for the heads up.
An imaginative campaign from ABC to promote its series for the 2009-10 season is being expanded.
The campaign, which began in May, is centered on the fanciful notion that the stars of all the shows broadcast by ABC live together in a house as one big happy family. Think of it as sort of a marketing spin on “Big Brother.” (Video below.)
The commercials that have appeared so far have been general in nature, featuring ABC stars like Sally Field (“Brothers and Sisters”), Teri Hatcher (“Desperate Housewives”), Matthew Fox (“Lost”) and the late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. New spots that are to begin running on Saturday, which will be available in longer versions next week on abc.com, will promote four new sitcoms that are to make their debuts on Wednesdays in the fall.
The new Wednesday series touted in the commercials are “Hank,” starring Kelsey Grammer; “The Middle,” starring Patricia Heaton; “Modern Family,” with an ensemble cast that includes Ed O’Neill; and “Cougartown,” with Courteney Cox. They are to appear from 8 to 10 on Wednesday nights.
The vignettes in the commercials include Calista Flockhart of “Brothers and Sisters” welcoming Mr. Grammer to the ABC house and showing him to his room. He offers her a tip; she tells him she is not a maid. Also, Josh Holloway of “Lost” and Ms. Cox exchange ripostes at a barbecue. And some of the newcomers are pressed into doing laundry for the casts of established ABC series like “Dancing With the Stars” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”
“We started with the people who are very familiar faces,” said Marla Provencio, co-executive vice president for marketing at ABC with Mike Benson. Now the idea is to use the premise of the ABC house to “introduce our new Wednesday comedy line-up,” she added.
“The great thing about the ABC house campaign is that it has such great legs,” Ms. Provencio said.
For instance, if ABC is to broadcast a special show like the American Music Awards, she added, the celebrities who are nominees could appear in commercials as if they had been invited to the ABC house “for a special dinner” or “television night.”
The campaign is being created internally at the marketing department at ABC, part of the Walt Disney Company, with Becky Daugherty, vice president for specials and late night, and her staff members. Vince Manze, a former NBC marketing executive who is a consultant to ABC, is also helping develop the campaign.

Thanks to GregDean for the heads up.
The cast is coming together for the movie version of "Machete," one of the fake trailers included in 2007's "Grindhouse," and it includes three LOST cast members. Cheech Marin (David Reyes) and Jeff Fahey (Frank Lapidus) both appeared in the original trailer, and will reprise their roles, as will Danny Trejo as the title character. Also costarring will be Michelle Rodriguez, AKA Ana Lucia Cortez and Don Johnson, who costarred with Cheech in "Nash Bridges," which was created by none other than LOST's Carlton Cuse. Other non-LOST-related costars include Robert de Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal and Lindsay Lohan. Filming of "Machete" started this week in Texas, and season 6 of LOST also starts filming soon. Hopefully, "Machete" will not conflict with any possible plans for Frank Lapidus, Ana Lucia or Hurley's Dad !

New Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Interview
AAA talks about his role in his new movie G.I. Joe and then discusses the rumors about his potential return to LOST as Mr. Eko.
I would go crazy if he returned. Eko was always one of my favorite characters and one of the most disappointing deaths on the show for me.
No spoilers, so enjoy and thanks to everyone that sent this in!
Here is the transcript of what he says about LOST:
Yes there are rumors circulating about LOST and I do not know where that are coming from (He smiles with a grin and looks around), but they are building up. Yeah so you know with that show anything can happen and the fans really liked Mr. Eko and it might be nice to weild the stick one more time.

Nestor Carbonell,
Online Article
We had the pleasure of talking with Nestor Carbonell from ABC's Lost at the 2009 Comic Con. Nestor talked with us about the upcoming season, his character's backstory, and the evolution of his character. Here's what was said:
You started off as a character that was not seen very much in the show. How did you approach that evolution into such a powerful character?
Nestor Carbonell: Well thank you. I started out as a guest star, not unlike Michael Emerson did on the show. My first episode was as a recruiter to get Juliet to come to The Island. I ended up killing her ex-husband who was stopping her from leaving The Island. When I read the material, I thought it'd be interesting if I didn't play him; I've got to convince her. I can't tip her off that I've got some other ideas. I've got to be genuine and honest and kind, and probably have a good reason for killing her ex-husband. That was always my mantra, don't play the villain. Play him as a human being. To this day, I don't really know if he's good or evil. Just when I think I've figured out the character, I open up another script and think, "Oh my God, now I'm completely thrown." For me, it's to always try and find another dimension to the role.
Since they contracted you for two or three years of the remaining in the series, how integral are you to the homestretch?
Nestor Carbonell: You know it remains to be to be seen. I was shooting a scene in the last season, and it was right before the finale. It was a scene where Terry O'Quinn comes to The Island, returns after being lost for three years. I did the scene, and the director says, "OK, great, now do another take and be a little more suspicious about his return." I go, "Alright." So I played the scene a little more suspicious, and he said, "OK, great let's move on." The next week I open up and script and I discover why I was suspicious. They don't tell me anything. Not even on the day. So I have to justify it on my own.
With the time travel aspect, the past and present, as an actor do you see yourself as the same person?
Nestor Carbonell: It's a really good question, because at one point I was flashed back with long hair. I call it the Jesus wig. That discussion came up again later, am I going to wear the wig when we go to the 70's again, am I not going to wear the wig? They decided not to. I think they just wanted to impress upon the viewers that I don't change physically. Do I grow in wisdom? I think so, but I still don't know how old he is. If he's several hundred years old, maybe his process of aging is so much slower. He's essentially the same person within the thirty years that we've seen him.
There's been speculation.. Is he immortal, can he live forever? Do you think that it is a good thing or a bad thing to be able to live forever?
Nestor Carbonell: Would it be a blessing? It's a mixed bag. You get to see everything supposedly, but you don't know when the end is coming because there is no end. I don't know if I would want to be immortal, but certainly living a longer life seeing as much as you can. It's almost like the show itself. I want it to go on, but I also want to see the result. You want some answers and you want resolution.
How do you feel not only being a character, but a part of all these questions that make Lost what it is?
Nestor Carbonell: It's a thrill. Like I said, I started out as a guest. I never knew my part was going to grow beyond what it did. When I was told, "OK, you're going to be on The Island now." I go, "Really? In what capacity; in what way?" When I was handed the episode where I didn't age at all, I go, "That has to be answered at some point." To be part of one of the properties of The Island, in a sense, or either The Island has had an effect on me either through Jacob or the magic qualities of The Island. It's great, it's a thrill. It's a weird thing as an actor to play because I want to be human, but in the same token, you can't deny that there's something super human or otherly about this character.
How much do you know about your back story?
Nestor Carbonell: I know, I think, as much as you guys know. That I've been around a number of years, I don't have number on that. That I don't seem to change much, and that I wear eye liner permanently.

When producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse set an end date for ABC's Lost, both the fans and the actors got to know that they were working toward a goal. No more placeholder episodes. Everything has been driving toward the ultimate resolution. Now that the final season is here, they're starting to get sad, according to cast member Jorge Garcia, who plays Hurley/Hugo.

Netflix Announces Agreement With Disney-ABC Television Group to Stream Several Hit ABC Series
Select Prior Seasons of 'Lost,' 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Desperate Housewives' Will be Available from Netflix to Watch Instantly on Computers and TVs
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX), the world's largest online movie rental service, today announced an agreement with Disney-ABC Television Group that will make several of ABC's most popular TV series available to be streamed instantly from Netflix.
In its entirety, the deal will allow Netflix members to instantly watch the first five seasons of the hit ABC franchise "Lost," seasons four and five of the pop culture phenomenon "Desperate Housewives," season five of the critically acclaimed "Grey's Anatomy," and seasons one and two of the syndicated epic action-adventure fantasy series "Legend of the Seeker" from ABC Studios. Many of the episodes, including the first four seasons of "Lost," will be available from Netflix beginning August 1. The remainder will be available in subsequent months, beginning in September.
Overall, the agreement extends the online relationship between Netflix and Disney-ABC Television Group, which announced their first digital licensing deal last September. That agreement centered on original series from Disney Channel, including the hits "Hannah Montana," "Wizards of Waverly Place," "The Suite Life on Deck," and Disney Channel's two newest original series, "JONAS" and "Sonny with a Chance." That deal, which will continue, makes episodes available day-after-broadcast.
The new agreement, which was brokered by Disney-ABC Domestic Television, adds top broadcast properties to a growing library of more than 12,000 movies and TV episodes that Netflix members can watch instantly on their computers and TVs as part of their membership at no additional monthly cost.
"We're excited about this new agreement since it builds on a strong foundation with Disney-ABC Television Group," said Robert Kyncl, vice president of content acquisition for Netflix. "In all, we're providing Netflix members with some of the most popular and avidly followed shows on TV while working with an important business partner to help grow several of its key franchises."
As Netflix continues to expand the movies and TV episodes that its members can watch instantly, the company is also partnering with leaders in consumer electronics to bring to market a growing number of network devices that can instantly stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix directly to members' TVs. Those devices include Blu-ray disc players and new Internet TVs from LG Electronics; Blu-ray disc players from Samsung; the Roku digital video player; Microsoft's Xbox 360 game console; TiVo digital video recorders; and, soon, Internet TVs from Sony and VIZIO.

Thanks to prisonbreak-tv.ru for the heads up
We had the pleasure of speaking with Josh Holloway at the 2009 Comic Con. Here's what he had to say.
How does it feel to be in the home stretch?
Josh: Bittersweet. As an actor, of course, I'm interested in playing other roles and experimenting with other things, so that part is a bit exciting. To possibly do something- a different role, but, like I said, it's bittersweet because it's going to be difficult to top this one. I've been really enjoying the exploration of the character throughout, and it's going to be a sad thing to see it end. But, then again, it's going to be magical. Last year, everyone's going to be just so excited and the material's going to finally make some sense - maybe. So that I'm looking forward to. The only thing I've gotten right is: I thought The Island moved. That's all I got right the entire six years. I remember saying that to Damon and he got all weird with me. I was like, "Uh oh! Found something, didn't I?" And he ran off. But, yeah, it's gonna be bittersweet for this to end; we love Hawaii.
What is Sawyer's state of mind, post Juliet falling down a giant hole?
Josh: Wow. I think he's pretty destroyed. So I think he's going to be back to - all of that growth just got ripped away. So I think he's going to be a bit salty again, which I'm looking forward to. So I'm not really sure. All I know is that he's destroyed and has given up on life again - having any positive lessons. So, watch out!
Have you had time to read any of the books that Sawyer reads?
Josh: No, actually, strangely enough. And I want to! 'Cause I love Watership Down, which I've seen the cartoon, of course, when I was young, and I was very impressed with that. So I figured, "Hey! I've seen the cartoon, don't need to read the book!" No, I'm kidding. But I read constantly, and I meant to do that - I meant to read these things. And yeah, I've read parts of them because I'm actually reading when I'm reading.
It just feels like it's almost like a course that they're laying out. But who has time to actually take the course?
Josh: It is! Right, exactly. But yeah, I read constantly so...I just haven't read those.
