Thanks to Lora for the heads up.

FlashForward is quite undeniably the most buzzed-about new series this season. With heavy comparisons to Lost, the drama charts what happens when the whole world blacks out for exactly 2 minutes and 17 seconds, during which time they experience 'flash forwards' of their lives six months in the future. The cast is aptly stellar, and includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Lost's Sonya Walger and her former co-star Dominic Monaghan. But could FlashForward really be the next big thing? We called up the show's leading lady to find out more.

What can you tell us about your character, Olivia?
"She's the main woman in the show. My husband is an FBI agent, played by Joseph Fiennes, who is put in charge of working out what happened. She's a trauma surgeon in her own right so she's working at the hospital and dealing with many of the casualties of the event and therefore many of the stories. She had her own flash forward which was very troubling - she sees the end of her marriage. She sees herself with another man; a man she's never met before and she confides that in her husband. She thinks it will help by revealing that information to him, but it ends up making them both feel very unsettled. They have a child, little Charlie, who has also had a flash forward even though she's only seven."

Having worked on both Lost and FlashForward now, what do you make of the comparisons between the shows?
"I think they're only valid in that they're both big ensemble shows with one big concept or premise. But after that, they part ways really quite rapidly. FlashForward is definitely not a sci-fi show. It doesn't have the mythology of Lost. We have one major event that happens that you are asked to buy into. After that, you're dealing with very human ripple effects - how people deal with it and how they come to terms with it. There are six-and-a-half billion people that have blacked out, so that's potentially six-and-a-half billion stories to tell! Believe me, we're not telling all of them. But we're about to start [filming] episode eight and I'm so surprised by how far the ripple has been felt."

Are the FlashForward scripts kept equally as secret?
"These scripts are kept very, very secret. Each script has a watermark on it with your name. My script has my name on every single page, so if it was found in a trash can or on a website, it would have my name on it so it would be directly my fault if that script leaked. We have to hand our scripts in when we're finished with them so that they can shred them! There is very tight security - they hand-deliever my scripts to my house as well. The essence of this show is the element of surprise and the gradual discovery of it, so it would be a tremendous shame if the secrets got out before the show had even launched."

J.J. Abrams lands comedy at Fox

J.J. Abrams is taking a comedic turn at Fox with a half-hour project written by Mike Markowitz.

Abrams, co-creator/executive producer of Fox's sophomore sci-fi drama "Fringe," is exec producing the untitled comedy, which has been given a presentation order.

Details on the premise are being kept under wraps beyond a bare-bones logline of "a comedic medical show."

Markowitz and Bryan Burk also exec produce the presentation from Warner Bros. TV and Abrams' studio-based Bad Robot Prods.

The medical drama field is crowded with stalwarts "Grey's Anatomy" and "House" as well as "Private Practice" and newcomers "Trauma," "Miami Trauma," "Mercy," "Three Rivers" and "Hawthorne." But there is room for medical comedies, with ABC's veteran "Scrubs" and Showtime's freshman dramedy "Nurse Jackie" the only players.

Markowitz, who has worked on such comedy series as "Becker" and "It's All Relative," is repped by CAA.

    Hey All,
First of all Happy Birthday LOST!! Five years ago today, the LOST Pilot aired and many of our lives were changed forever. Do you ever wonder what would happen or where you might be today if you did not watch LOST!?

Obviously you would not be reading this post but I wonder sometimes what if I did not have this site?? What would I be doing in my spare time!?

Well in honor of that I have a video for you all. By now most of you have seen the strange commercial promos released at Comic Con hinting at maybe what to expect in Season 6, but how about this? An ALT version of Cindy working for Bissell Vacuum Cleaners!?

Confused yet? Well this is not from LOST, but a real commercial that Oceanic Air Flight Attendant Cindy (aka actress Kimberly Joseph) filmed for the Bissell Vacuum company.

I would like to note that she is taking care of kids!

Thanks to Karen for the heads up.

NOVA and National Geographic Television present an extraordinary human drama that led to the birth of the most influential scientific theory of all time, evolution, in Darwin’s Darkest Hour. Acclaimed screenwriter John Goldsmith (David Copperfield, Victoria and Albert) brings to life Charles Darwin’s greatest personal crisis: the anguishing decision over whether to “go public” with his theory of evolution. Darwin, portrayed by Henry Ian Cusick (Lost), spent years refining his ideas and penning his book the Origin of Species. Yet, daunted by looming conflict with the orthodox religious values of his day, he resisted publishing—until a letter from naturalist Alfred Wallace forced his hand. You can watch the prologue here.

The Darwin’s Darkest Hour companion website - http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/darwin/ - launches Tuesday, September 22nd with an interview with Henry Ian Cusick.

Thanks to TarlCabot for the following.

On Monday Night Football, they kept showing this B/W Nike ad featuring Adrian Peterson. According to the Wall Street Journal the ad, called “Alter Ego”, was directed by David Fincher.

Every time I see the ad, I keep thinking the music sounds oddly familiar.

That’s because it is, it uses the same music and sound effects that the TV show LOST uses in most every episode right before the end credits. The ad even uses the “smash cut” that LOST uses when going to its title card.

Thanks to aohora for the heads up.

If anyone here is going, we would love to feature and news/reports/photos from the event.

“The brilliance of LOST has forever raised the bar for future television projects. For the past five years LOST has kept TV viewers on the edge of their seats waiting for the next plot twist or turn and Hawaii has had the privilege of being the backdrop for this revolutionary show,” said Chuck Boller, Executive Director of HIFF. “We want to celebrate this partnership and what better way than to bring the show’s creators, producers, cast and crew together with their biggest fans. HIFF’s celebration of LOST will give the public a once-in-a-lifetime chance to interface with the incredible people behind this award-winning series.”

This all-day event truly benefits Hawaii, since the show is filmed entirely on the island of Oahu. In the evening, fans will have the opportunity to pick the brains of the show’s creative masterminds, discuss the last 5 1/2 years of the show with special guest appearances from cast and crew members and perhaps find out a bit about the upcoming final season. Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse will receive the Hawaii International Film Festival’s “Vision in Film Award,” presented by Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann. The City and County of Honolulu sponsors the “Vision in Film Award” at HIFF. Previous recipients of the Vision in Film Award include famed Chinese directors Ang Lee and Zhang Yimou.

HIFF will also honor Hawaii-based executive producer and director Jack Bender and co-executive producer Jean Higgins with the Hawaii International Film Festival’s inaugural Mahalo Nui Loa Award, created especially for Bender and Higgins.

"EVENING WITH DAMON LINDELOF AND CARLTON CUSE"

    'Lost-mania' grips Iran

Thanks to Chris for the heads up.

Its melodramatic, twisting plot and apocalyptic overtones were tailor-made for western audiences. Now Lost, the US television series about plane crash survivors stuck on a remote island, is to be put on commercial release in Iran following soaring sales of pirated black-market DVDs.

Silver Screen, the country's leading home video distributor, is to market the award-winning show's first three seasons – a total of 15 episodes – after buying the broadcast rights and commissioning Iranian actors to dub it into Farsi.

It has also started talks with the state broadcaster, IRIB, with a view to airing Lost on nationwide television.

Programmes will be carefully censored to exclude "un-Islamic" scenes such as those featuring scantily clad women or male-female physical contact.

Iran's culture and Islamic guidance ministry, which decides which films and programmes are shown, is expected to approve the idea.

The move follows an outbreak of what has been described as "Lost-mania", which has seen the ABC-produced series downloaded from the internet and widely discussed on Iranian websites. Large numbers of Farsi-subtitled DVDs have been sold illegally in shops.

Other long-running US dramas – including 24, Prison Break and Desperate Housewives – have been widely distributed on Iran's black market, but none has been given official approval.

Granting distribution and broadcasting rights to Lost would mark a policy reversal after officials previously criticised the series and warned media outlets against publicising it.

Mohammad Hossein Saffar-Harandi, recently sacked as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's culture and Islamic guidance minister, lambasted it for displaying "Zionist concepts". However, others insisted the programme was suitable for an Iranian audience because it has "eastern" themes.

"The atmosphere of this story, due to our classic literature, is familiar to Iranian and eastern viewers," Saeed Ghotbizadeh, a TV and cinema critic, told the Tehran-e Emrooz newspaper. "Eastern viewers can understand it better and would naturally like it.

"Because it has a religious theme, it is possible to broadcast 90% of it without censorship. But its brilliant and special characterisation might be sacrificed in Persian dubbing – a lot will depend on how well it is dubbed."

Lost's popularity has already spawned plans for an Iranian remake that would include plot revisions to match Islamic mores.

Last night in Beverly Hills, Sci Fi Crush got the chance to speak briefly with Damon Lindelof, executive producer of Lost and co-writer of the upcoming Star Trek sequel.

The hit ABC series, Lost, approaches its sixth and final season in 2010. Lindelof described writing the last episodes to be “an enormous emotional experience” and confirmed that the show’s ending has been in the works since the very beginning.

The writer also promised Lost fans that all of the show’s loose ends will be tied up in a fair and satisfying way. ”We hope that all who put their faith in us to resolve these stories will be rewarded. We’ve really been writing this season for the fans.”

Damon Lindelof also produced this summer’s reboot of Star Trek and has been working with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci on developing the sequel. ”It’s in the preliminary stages,” he said, “We’ve thrown around some cool ideas, but that’s it.”

Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are up for an Emmy for their two-parter Lost episode, “The Incident.”

We wish them all the best.
