Thanks to Annie for the heads up.
Jeff Fahey, who plays helicopter pilot Frank Lapidus on ABC's hit show, "LOST," spent two days this week meeting politicians and journalists in order to bring attention to the issue of refugee warehousing and the refugee situations in Algeria and Thailand. Fahey, whose work on this issue is in concert with the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, recently met with escaped refugees from camps near Tindouf, Algeria.
POLITICO sat down with Fahey Wednesday to talk about these issues and, of course, whether members of Congress are die hard "LOST" fans.

Former 'Lost' actress Elizabeth Mitchell 'cried for a couple of days' after being written off show
Elizabeth Mitchell, former "Lost" fertility doctor Juliet, says that when she found out she was being killed off on the ABC drama, she and co-star Evangeline Lilly went on a bender.
"I cried for a couple days," Mitchell says in Entertainment Weekly's latest issue, on stands tomorrow. "Evangeline and my sister came over, and we drank until we fell asleep on the couch, which was not good, because none of us are big drinkers. We woke up and said, 'Let's do ice cream next time, okay?'"
Up next for Mitchell is ABC's "V," yet another sci-fi thriller - which is just fine with the actress, who labels herself a "dork and a nerd."
"They know I'm one of them. Completely," said Mitchell. "Like a wolf in sheep's clothing, I'm a sci-fi fan - with a soccer mom on the outside."

Looking at the more recent successful films, it's becoming clear that star power is no longer a guaranteed box office draw for audiences. Unknown actors and actresses are garnering as much attention as their A-List counterparts. It looks like the creative team behind the upcoming Guy Ritchie adaptation of DC Comics' Lobo is paying attention to this trend as IGN says a source close to production told them that actor Clancy Brown might be the man to step into Lobo's shoes. Apparently with the amount of special effects needed to create the character, there isn't too much concern in bringing in a high profile name to lead this project.
"Ultimately regardless of whether you do it all CG or its a guy in a suit, with CG, you'll still end up doing a lot of CG animation. So do you need a celebrity? Do you need a name or do you just get someone who is good and who's gonna nail it?"

Evangeline Lilly has revealed she struggles in relationships - as she enjoys being alone.
The 30-year-old actress - who plays Kate in hit drama Lost - did date her co-star Dominic Monaghan but revealed she can't imagine herself getting married.
Evangeline said: "It's a real struggle for me - I am very independent and I do very well on my own."
She added: "I don't get lonely, really. I like to be alone. Some people have to focus to make themselves spend time on their own, but I'm okay with that. I'm the opposite. I'm always alone and I love it."
But Evangeline revealed: "It's been my goal to socialise more this year because I am such a geek and I thought I should try to do a bit better with my socialising skills. I'm the ultimate geek when it comes to socialising."
Kate is adoptive mother to Aaron in season five of Lost - which is out now on DVD - and Evangeline revealed she has thought about adopting herself.
She said: "For a very long time, I have had intentions to adopt. We have a huge population problem on earth. I have always wanted to have a child of my own and I will always want to go through the gift that women have been given to experience that, so I hope to be a mother at some point. I think I can allow myself one child - and from then on, I think I would have to adopt."

Thanks to Doyousmellcarrots for the heads up.
Ay, brother -- Henry Ian Cusick is off the hook.
Cusick -- who plays Desmond Hume on "Lost" -- has settled a sexual harassment lawsuit with a former production staffer who sued him back in April for allegedly grabbing and touching her inappropriately.
The woman sued Cusick, ABC and a Hawaiian production company. Her lawyer tells us she has settled with all the defendants and the terms are confidential.

Thanks to Marco for the following.
I’ve found a possible media mention in yesterday’s Colbert Report. After the first commercial break there was a sequence where they showed a job application letter. The name on it was “Jim LeFleur” (not LaFleur) from Portland. It’s nothing big, but I thought I’ll give you a heads up. I made a quick screenshot of the application letter mentioned and I now noticed some of the Lost numbers under the name.

J.J. Abrams Says He Would Like To Return to the 'Superman' Franchise

The last time J.J. Abrams had the Man of Steel on his mind, things didn't exactly work out as planned, but given his resilient career in television and film since 2002, the creator is in a better position than ever to make a hypothetical return to the property. However, despite the support of high-profile fans such as filmmaker Kevin Smith and many in the fan community, at this point, nothing is officially moving forward with Abrams' version of Superman.
"No one has talked to me about it," Abrams told MTV News. "Obviously I’m sure Warner Brothers has a plan for what they want to do."
"Writing that script was a long process," he explained. "It was a very passionate character for me. As a kid growing up it meant a lot to me. It would be wonderful and fun to see that brought back. I don’t know what Warners is thinking or what their plan is. It would be a blast."
Though the "Lost" co-creator and "Star Trek" director's first crack at scripting the Last Son of Krypton received mixed reviews from fans, it still has its supporters in Hollywood. Brendan Fraser, who actually suited up for a screen test for what would have been a Brett Ratner-directed film, has only praised what would have been. Abrams himself explained that while that particular draft didn't see the light of day, there's still a version of the script he'd enjoy he could envision being produced.
"That version of the movie—the one that was reviewed and vilified—was actually not the latest draft we had at the time and we worked on it well after that. I do think there’s a version of that movie that could be really fun to see," said Abrams. "You never really know. Everything happens for a reason."

Dominic Monaghan has revealed that he will "definitely be tuning in" for the final season of Lost.
The 32-year-old actor, who played Charlie Pace on the ABC cult series, also said that he knows a few details on how the series ends.
"I know little bits and pieces about the final season, but I'm still going to watch it," he said. "It's event television, so I'll definitely be tuning in."
Asked about the comparisons between Lost and his new series FlashForward, Monaghan claimed that there are "distinct differences" between the shows.
"Well, there are obvious similarities because both Lost and FlashForward include a large ensemble cast, a very ambitious storyline and a very easy way to sell the show internationally because it's based on an event that happens worldwide," he said.
"Both include mystery, drama and suspense - but at the same time, I think there are distinct differences. I think FlashForward is a show that is probably not as sophisticated in that deeply-rich mythology as Lost is.
"However, I would not like to call FlashForward ‘simplistic’ in any way."
Lost returns January 2010 for its final season. FlashForward currently airs Thursdays at 8pm on ABC in the US and Mondays at 9pm on Five in the UK.

Question: I have been thoroughly enjoying 3/4 of ABC's Wednesday night comedy block (which, so far, is funnier and more accessible than the 3/4s of NBC's Thursday night comedy block I watch). My question is this: Where is Lost going to go? For the majority of its run, Lost has been on Wednesdays at 9/8c (except for its freshman year when it aired at 8/7c—which still shocks me—and the year of the writers' strike when it aired on Thursdays). I can't imagine ABC pulling its newly established (and relatively successful) comedy in favor of Lost, so in all likelihood, the final season of Lost will be airing in a time slot it has never aired previously. Where do you think it will go?—Erin
Matt Roush: Clearly, scheduling the final season of Lost will be no laughing matter. But I agree that it’s not in ABC’s best interests to jettison its new Wednesday comedy block just as it’s building up some steam, critically and some weeks in the ratings. (It’s a tough night, and ABC will need to be patient to see long-term growth; getting rid of Hank would be a good first step.) ABC has not yet announced just how it will schedule Lost in its final season, but wherever it airs, its fans will find it and follow it to the end. This final season isn’t going to be about ratings necessarily; Lost isn’t likely to grow in its final season, although many who’ve fallen away may tune in toward the end just to see how it wraps up. Which is why I wouldn’t be surprised if ABC puts it in one of the open 10/9c slots where shows currently are performing poorly: Tuesdays or, more likely, Wednesdays. This gets it out of the way of the American Idol juggernaut, and while I’d prefer it to air in a 9/8c time period as it has done the last few seasons, I don’t see an opening there, especially on Wednesdays, where the acclaimed Modern Family serves as the anchor for the comedy block. In the big picture, it’s more important for ABC to continue nurturing its terrific new comedies for the long haul than to worry too much about protecting Lost in its final stretch. Wherever it airs, we’ll be there.

Thanks to Odul for the heads up.
“Lost” co-creator Damon Lindelof, “Freaks and Geeks” creator Paul Feig and late-night comedy writer Chuck Sklar met Saturday afternoon in the ballroom of the Driskill Hotel to discuss how pilot scripts written on speculation become successful prime-time television shows.
It turns out the panel’s premise was kind of faulty: While Sklar has sold three pilot scripts, none was ever produced; as Feig pointed out, “freaks and Geeks,” while a cult favorite, could hardly be classified as successful, having been cancelled after it’s freshman season; and “Lost?” Lindelof called it “an unmitigated disaster.”
Here are some highlights of the discussion:
On “Lost”: “Lost” was an unmitigated disaster. I am the worst person to be on this panel,” Lindelof said. Outgoing ABC Entertainment Group President Lloyd Braun decided to make the most expensive pilot ever as a (expletive) you.” The network had a pilot script called “Nowhere,” that was basically pretty, shirtless people romping around on a beach, Lindelof said. ABC liked the idea of a plane-crash, island show, but wanted it re-written. “Our idea was that it would be a mystery show. Heavy serialized and supernatural.” He says the show wasn’t his and co-creator Carlton Cuse’s idea, but they tried to make it their best. “They tested it and it tested well; they picked it up,” he said.
“As we were writing the pilot, the network wanted us to create the show’s ‘bible’, but until you’re actually doing it you don’t know what’s going to work and not work,” he added. “That’s like asking somebody on the morning of their wedding day, ‘How are you going to raise your kids?’ One of these days we’ll let the public see this ‘bible’ and they can see how quickly we deviated from it.”

Damon Lindelof
Thanks to Alienware and Grant for the heads up.
Damon Lindelof began his Hollywood career reviewing scripts for Paramount, Fox and Alan Ladd studios. From there, he moved on to writing, most notably on TV shows, including "Nash Bridges" and the Tim Kring helmed "Crossing Jordan." Lindelof soon hit the big time as co-creator and executive producer of the hit ABC TV Show "Lost," where he cemented his relationship with J.J. Abrams, who he has continued to work with, most recently in the revitalization of the "Star Trek" franchise which Lindelof co-produced.
In 2005, he landed his first comic book gig with "Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk," where Lindelof chronicled the action-packed meeting of the two titular characters. The series was unfortunately met with delays starting with issue three, which was originally solicited for April of 2006 but did not see publication till over three years later. The mini-series finally wrapped in May of this year, and was released in October in hardcover form. Now, with Lindelof's first comic book work completed and the hit show "Lost" heading into it's final season, CBR News caught up with Lindelof at his first comic book signing at Earth-2 to talk TV and comics.
Over three and a half years after the first issue debuted on the stands, Lindelof finally gets to hold the collected trade in his hands. "I felt like it would never happen, but it's really exciting that the day is here," he said. "For all the people that said they would wait for the trade, now they have the opportunity to make good on that promise! But I don't blame them if they don't, 'cause it was a long time in the making."
Lindelof's work on "Lost" is also coming to a close with the sixth and final season airing in just four months. "People keep saying, 'Wow, it must be really sad for you guys,' but I feel that excitement is the prevailing emotion," he explained. "We've written over a hundred and ten hours of 'Lost,' now, and it's been basically the same sort of family doing the show since the beginning, and I think we are all looking forwards to ending it. Every story has a beginning, middle and end, and as sad as it is sometimes to end a story, it's also incredibly liberating and exciting. Every scene that we write is one scene closer to the inevitable, so it feels pretty good. I don't know if anyone is going to like it, but at least we are delivering on our promise to answer some stuff."
Shifting to comics while remaining on the subject of emotions, and with "Blackest Night" in full swing, Lindelof gave his choices on which of the Losties would inherit each color ring. "Fear - the greatest character for that [emotion] would be Hurley," Lindelof said. "For willpower, Locke, for hope, Jack, for avarice, Sawyer, for rage... Wow, so many on that one! I'll say Mr. Eko. For love, Juliet, for compassion, Kate and for death - no comment." When questioned further if mayhaps Charlie, played by Dominic Monaghan, might exemplify death, as his character died in Season Three, Lindelof quipped "He's only relatively dead; 'mostly dead,' as they would say in 'The Princess Bride.'"
While Damon is looking forward to delivering the answers of many of the questions that have come up on "Lost," he doesn't plan on answering them all. "I don't think it would be 'Lost' if we answered every question to every viewer's satisfaction," Lindelof said. "I mean, there are some people who are still asking us 'What's the story with Kate's toy plane?' and there is nothing more to say about it; we've definitively answered that question to the best of our ability on the show, so you won't be hearing anymore about the toy plane. That being said, there are other sort of meta questions, like, what do the numbers mean, that we will be addressing more directly in the final season. But some people will feel like, 'Wow, they answered more than I thought they ever would about that question,' and some people will say 'What a hose job, I am so unsatisfied!' Our goal is to land in the middle of the 'hose jobers' and the 'too much informationers,' because you can't make everybody happy."
Some answers that Lindelof is willing to give fans now are to questions about who may or may not be appearing in the final season. "Most of the questions that we get asked are 'Is so-and-so coming back?' or 'Are we going to see more of so-and-so?' and I feel like that if I know the answer to that question, the fans sort of deserve a 'Yes, that is something you should be looking forward to,' or 'Don't get your hopes up for that because it's not going to happen.' I don't want you to tune in waiting for the Great American Libby story, because it's not coming."
Years back, Lindelof even revealed a major plot point for Season Two to a lucky fan. Unfortunately, however, she didn't believe him. "We were [doing a] signing, and the ["Lost"] Season One DVDs had just come out," Lindelof recalled. "It was early September, before Season Two started, and this woman asked 'What's in the hatch?' And I said, 'I'll write it in your DVD,' and I wrote down 'There is a guy in there pushing a button every 108 minutes or the world will end.' And she looked at it, and she went 'pffft,' like she thought I was kidding. But sometimes when you tell the truth, it seems like it's a lie."
Several TV shows, like "Jericho," "Heroes," and "Chuck" have been developed as comic books, and with Lindelof's ties to the comic book world, one would think that "Lost" would be a natural fit for a similar treatment. When asked about the possibility of a "Lost" comic, Lindelof replied, "We've been very guarded about doing ancillary materials, because it's primarily a mystery show. We feel that, if we did comic books, we want to make sure they tied in [and] they were canon, but at the same time, it has to be a cool enough story that warrants it being told, so it's not just filler. But if it becomes integral to the story, then you're alienating the actual people who watch the show because they feel like they are missing something. So I feel that maybe comic books for 'Lost' will make a lot more sense once the series is done, to possibly fill in some blanks if we choose to go that road. But we've been really averse to the idea, because we couldn't creatively control it as we were going along. [With] Chuck, he can go on missions or adventures that are not integral to the story of 'Chuck,' and 'Heroes' [is the] same thing. They can introduce ancillary heroes who are not essential to the central mythology of the show, but for 'Lost,' there is only one mythology, so we can't basically say. 'Here are the adventures of the Black Rock' in the comic book and then not give it to the people who watch the show. People want to know about the Black Rock who watch the show. You don't want to say 'You want to know about the Black Rock? Well you have to buy a comic book." Our primary commitment has always been to the people who watch 'Lost' every week, and then the ancillary materials are basically to support the mothership."
Lindelof has long been associated with the film adaptation of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series alongside J.J. Abrams, a project he has since decided that he won't do as not to screw up a property he truly loves. Though, with Marvel doing the "Dark Tower" comic books, a Lindelof penned comic book mini-series might be in his future. "I would love to do a 'Dark Tower' story in the Marvel world, when the dust settles. I actually think that [writers] Robin [Furth] and Peter [David] have been doing an awesome job with all that stuff, and I'm totally into the 'Dark Tower' comic book. I think it's cool."

Thanks to TheODI for the heads up.
Evangeline Lilly has said that she would never be able to pen a show like Lost.
The actress, who has starred as the show's Kate Austen since the start of the series, told Stylist that she will pursue writing after the end of Lost's sixth and final season.
Lilly said: "Writing is my first passion. I can't stop it. I write all the time so I want to either publish something I have written or sell a film script."
When asked if she will write something like Lost, she replied: "Never in a million years! I am so not a sci-fi nut or buff in any way and this show is so beyond me, I couldn't fathom a show like this.
"But I'll write anything. If one day a TV series comes into my head and that is what I want to write, I'll write it. It just depends what story is in my brain at the time."
Earlier this year, Lilly's agent denied reports that the actress would leave the show before its conclusion next year.

Thanks to Moyra for the heads up.
On Monday, October 19, Danis Tanovic, the Oscar-winning director from Bosnia and Herzegovina, will start shooting his new movie, Circus Columbia.
The movie will be filmed in the city of Capljina, in Herzegovina, where a pre-shoot press conference was held today. The film is based on a book by Ivica Djikic, a Croatian author born in Herzegovina. The main roles have been taken by two of the most famous actors in the former Yugoslavia, Miki Manojlovic and Mira Furlan.
"This is a love story that happens sometime at the beginning of this war," Tanovic told reporters, referring to World War II.
"This is not the type of movie one does for the money, but because this is a story that has to be told, or better to say, this movie has to be made," said Manojlovic, who has lived and worked in countries across Europe for more than a decade.
"I am very happy to be part of this movie, which is rich in its screenplay and should be good," said Furlan who lives and works in Los Angeles as an actress.
"We will start on Monday in Vipava, and I hope shooting will be finished sometime in December. We will have 40 working days," Tanovic said, adding that he is more than happy to be able to do a film of this type in Bosnia and Herzegovina, "something that ten years ago was impossible".
The co-producers for the film are from the UK, Slovenia, Germany, Belgium, and Bosnia.
Tanovic won an Oscar in 2001 for his debut movie, No Mans Land. The movie garnered 42 awards, including a Golden Globe and Cesar. His latest movie, which stars Colin Farrell and Paz Vega, was recently shown at the Toronto and Rome festivals.
He lives and works in Sarajevo.

Not ANY spoilers, but a fairly relaxed and fun evening. Damon and Carlton got an award from the Mayor of Honolulu. ABC/Disney had these signs everywhere, which is funny because about a third of the audience was filming!

Very brief clip of Damon and Carlton discussing the basic stuff: We know the ending, we knew the ending, and we were THRILLED when we found out we were able to end the show at Season 6!

Ian Somerhalder, star of the CW's "The Vampire Diaries," has signed to topline the romantic gothic fairy tale "Cradlewood." Hand Picked Films and Instinct Entertainment are behind the indie being directed by Harry Weinmann.
The movie centers on an Australian woman living in Boston with the heir (Somerhalder) to an incredible fortune whose family history is swirled in a legend that tells of a pact made with a demon which ensures that whenever a boy is born into the family, the father is killed.
The heir suspects his girlfriend is pregnant, and after strange events occur, he comes to believe he will die if he continues to fall in love.
Emma Lung ("The Boys Are Back") will play the Australian woman.
"Cradlewood" is based on original story by Weinmann. Stephen Sewell ("The Boys") and John Paul Chapple ("Bathroy") wrote the script.
Michel Shane ("Catch Me If You Can") and David Redman ("Strange Bedfellows") will produce. Anthony Romano, Shana Levine and Dean Murphy will executive produce.
"We see this is as almost like an American-style 'Pan's Labyrinth' in look and feel," Shane said. "It's a perfect segue for the kids who have outgrown 'Twilight' but want something romantic and scary. Our monster will be quite terrifying; she is sexually attractive and monstrous at the same time."
The movie will take advantage of Down Under's 42% film-tax incentive, shooting Melbourne for Boston.
"Cradlewood" is eyeing production in April, during Somerhalder's hiatus from "Diaries." The actor, repped by Innovative Artists and Untitled Entertainment, also is known for his work on ABC's "Lost."

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a ratings stunt!
Marc Cherry has confirmed that a plane is going to come crashing down on Desperate Housewives' Wisteria Lane this season, for the show's midseason cliffhanger.
And now ABC sources are spilling this cool little nugget of info: The plane might end up being none other than one from Lost's Oceanic Airlines.
So wait a minute, does that mean that if/when Lost resets this season with an alternate reality (if that hydrogen bomb did actually go off), Jack, Kate, Sawyer and the gang could crash on Wisteria Lane instead of the island?
Sorry, no such luck, Susan Mayer. Jack Shepard will not be dipping his ladle in your special sauce...
The plane's Oceanic branding would just be a fun little Easter egg for Lost fans to find. And while the crossover has yet to be finalized, I'm told the higher-ups at ABC are keen on the idea.

Since being introduced in Season 2 Michael Emerson has been purely genius in his portrayal of Ben the "leader" of the Others. He has been one of my favorite actors and characters on the show since then and I am so glad he has survived on the show.
Here is the recent LOST Magazine Cover and a little story about him winning for Best LOST Bad Guy.
Thanks to Ricky for the heads up!
Enjoy!
Check out Titan Magaazine's LOST Page for more details and a Sneak Peek at the Exclusive Sawyer Cover for Issue 25.
Ben Linus wins best Lost Bad Guy
Readers of Totalscifionline.com and Lost Magazine have voted Ben Linus as the show’s top Bad Guy.
The shadowy character, played by the Emmy award-winning Michael Emerson, was first introduced in season two, when he initially pretended to have been stranded on the island after his hot air balloon crashed.
However, Ben was soon revealed to be the leader of the Others, and his later evil deeds included kidnapping Jack, Sawyer and Kate, attempting to kill Penelope, and killing Locke. But, of course, the distinction between heroes and villains is never clear-cut on Lost, and there are times when Ben seems almost sympathetic, particularly when we see his childhood in season five.
Ethan and Charles Widmore received the second and third amount of votes, while there were also votes for Juliet, Sawyer, Locke, Jack and er, Vincent the dog.
The new villains-themed issue of Titan Publishing’s official Lost Magazine is released on 13 October 2009 (US) and 29 October 2009 (UK).

Rebecca Mader
Rebecca Mader, best known for her work on "Lost," has booked roles in NALA Films' coming-of-age romantic comedy "Ceremony" and the Antonio Banderas noir mystery "The Big Bang."
"Ceremony," directed by Max Winkler from is own script, follows a young man (Michael Angarano) and his best friend who crash the wedding of a thirysomething woman (Uma Thurman) with whom the young man is infatuated.
Mader plays a married member of Thurman's wedding party who makes overtures toward Angarano.
The movie is shooting in New York, with Darlene Caamano Loquet, Emilio Diez Barroso, Polly Cohen Johnsen and Matthew Spicer producing.
Mader then segues to "Bang," which stars Banderas as a private detective searching for a former stripper who is supposed to exist but no one has ever seen in a mystery connected to a particle collider. She plays a meth addict who works at a medical center pretending to have different diseases for interns to react to.
Tony Krantz, Erik Jendresen and Richard Rionda Del Castro are producing. Jendresen wrote the script, and Krantz is directing the pic, which will shoot in Spokane, Wash.
On "Lost," Mader played anthropologist Charlotte Lewis, who died last season. She next appears on the big screen in "The Men Who Stare at Goats." Mader is repped by Innovative Artists and Mosaic.

Thanks to SL-Lost for the heads up.
Look who’s playing Charles Darwin, brotha! It’s Lost’s Most Valuable Scotsman, Henry Ian Cusick, who’s doing an ultraproper English accent and donning 19th-century garb (think puffy shirts and high-waisted trousers) for the role of history’s most famous naturalist. Cusick tells TV Guide Magazine about the NOVA bio-drama "Darwin's Darkest Hour," which premieres Tuesday, October 6 on PBS (check local listings). And, of course, we couldn’t let the opportunity go by without asking about the final season of Lost.
What in particular attracted you to playing Darwin?
Having saw pictures of him, I thought, “Wow, wouldn’t it be cool to transform myself into this character?” But unfortunately we didn’t go with the receding-balding look. [Laughs] It was just a fascinating script and as an actor I wanted to challenge myself.
How much research was required for the role?
As soon as I found out I was doing it I went on the Internet to find out as much as I could about him—what he looked like, his early life, and I started reading The Origin of Species. It was sort of a crash course on Darwin and his life.
Playing the controversial scientist as he faces the possibility that his life’s work may have been for nothing if another scholar publishes his nearly identical theories first takes a heavy toll on Darwin in the movie—as do the personal tragedies he endures, including the loss of two young children…
That was the attraction of the script. There’s a lot of theory and science in it, but you get to find out a lot about the man and his life. He lost two children very early on. I have children—it’s every parent’s worst nightmare! From the human side it was nice to be able to show a complete man rather than just the science bit, and hopefully that will make him more interesting. He has got a fascinating life. It’s something I’m proud of.
And there is a great love story between Charles and his deeply religious wife Emma, played by Frances O’Connor…
They had 10 kids; so, even though you wouldn’t have thought the Victorians were passionate…to have 10 kids you have to be pretty passionate! They were also first cousins, which was a worry to Darwin, because he thought that’s why his children were [sickly]. She was his rock. They had a very unconventional relationship—they were quite modern. Working with France O’Conner…she’s wonderful, she’s an absolute fantastic actress [and] I had a lot of fun working with her.
Did any of Darwin’s genius rub off on you?
[Laughs] Unfortunately, no. I’ve just become more educated about Darwin.
That’s too bad, because it would take a genius to figure out what’s going on in Lost! Production has begun in Hawaii, are you privy to what’s happening in the season premiere?
I’ve read scripts for up to Episode 3. It sort of picks up, as always, where it left off, but then it jumps all over the place. We get very excited to pick up the scripts and read them and they’re still as confusing and baffling as ever. [Laughs] We’re still going, “What the hell is going on now?”
Is it a different atmosphere on set now that it’s the last season?
Most of the [cast] are making plans to move back to the mainland. I think there are only a couple people contemplating staying in Hawaii. I’m thinking about staying in Hawaii. My children are in school and to pull them out now would be tricky. We really love life here. One of the best things about Lost is I got to live in Hawaii.
With Sonya Walger, who plays Penny, on FlashForward, does that mean there will be even less of Desmond and Penny this season?
I really don’t know what’s going to happen with Penny. And, to be honest, I don’t know what’s going to happen with Desmond either. Are we going to see less of him than last season? I hope not, because we didn’t see much of him and there are a lot of things I’d like to know about him. I think Desmond’s character has become more of a peripheral character. I think now we are zooming to the end and there are a lot of questions that need to be answered…
Do you have a favorite Desmond and Penny scene?
I guess their first meeting—that was kind of fun when she and Desmond are packing up the crates in the monastery. I like that scene.
What Lost mystery do you want solved?
What is the Island and why the Island—that’s the essence of the show. And then there are a thousand little strings we probably won’t get answers to, but I guess that’s life and you can make up your own stuff, so the conversations will go on and on and on.
What’s next, after Lost is done filming?
Nothing at all, so I better start looking.

Damon Lindelof Weighs In On Polanski Debate

The following was written by Damon Lindelof as part of a discussion about Roman Polanski on The New York Times blog Room For Debate.
I traveled to Paris recently with my wife and had the pleasure of spending an entire day at the Louvre. Both of us thought it would be a good idea to rent those headsets that provide you with a walking tour of the museum — a behind the scenes look at the works of art. And here’s what struck me:
Man oh man, what a load of perverts!
I don’t want to name names, but it seemed artist after artist had engaged in what today we might call “inappropriate sexual relationships.” Sometimes with brothers or sisters … and yes, even children. There was underage drinking, implications of abuse and other things the calm feminine voice emanating through my headphones would simply deem as “subversive.” All I could do was shake my head and think that these people were incredibly lucky there was no Googling going on during the Renaissance.
But the art still hangs on the walls. It is still beautiful. It is still eternal. Because 200 years from now, when my descendants watch a Holo-Ultra-Virtua-Blu-Ray version of “Annie Hall,” they will have no idea that Woody Allen married his own daughter. And even if they did?
That movie still rocks.

Interviews,
Michael Emerson,

Thanks to SL-Lost for the heads up.
It may be a bit weird for some fans of "Lost" who show up this weekend to watch the Honolulu Symphony's performances of "The Story of Babar."
Weird because the narrator for the popular children's story is none other than Michael Emerson, better known to fans of the hit TV show as the evil/creepy Benjamin Linus.
Linus would never narrate a story like this.
For Emerson, the extremely personable person, it's a perfect fit.
The following are excerpts from a Q&A with the Iowa native, who took some time recently to talk about "Lost," the orchestra, life on O'ahu and what both his and Benjamin Linus' future holds:
What is your relationship with the Honolulu Symphony?
I am not a musician myself, and not really a singer, either — so I depend on talented others to make music for me. This will be my first association with the symphony — an introduction made by Kristin Jackson, who is publicist here for both the symphony and "Lost."
In April, you gave us a look at what's on your iPod — Arcade Fire, CocoRosie, Cat Power, M.I.A., Be Good Tanyas, Mike Errico, Las Ondas Marteles, Ambient Groove, Radiohead, and Boubacar Traore were the first 10 artists to pop up. That's a pretty eclectic taste. What is your favorite genre, where does classical music fit in?
Oh, I have so many favorite genres, but I suppose I respond most to certain hypnotic kinds of rhythm — bossa nova always gets me — flamenco and fugues, Gregorian chant and ragas — I like a sense of the otherworldly and a bittersweet tone. I am interested in the peripheries of classical music more than the symphonic center — I like early and Renaissance music, solo piano and guitar and backward-looking composers like Arvo Part. I'm afraid I'm a little resistant to the big Romantic canon of the 19th century.
You play Linus so convincingly (hence the Emmy win), but with "Lost" set to wrap up, how do you think this role will affect future roles for you? Any worries of being typecast?
One of the responsibilities of my post-"Lost" life will be to make decisions about new roles and new tones in my work. While there is nothing wrong with being a successful villain, I do think I'd like a change of pace and a chance to engross audiences in something completely different. If I felt too pigeonholed by Hollywood, I would return to the stage.
"Lost" has been such a compelling series because we only get bits and pieces of the story at a time, spawning thousands of questions and just as many theories. Will fans get the answers they have been waiting for all these years in Season 6? Please?
I think (I hope) that many questions will be answered at the end of "Lost," but it would be fitting if some mysteries remain forever unanswered. I am more interested in the ending surprising us with a new context — a new point of view- so that we have to go back and rethink everything we've watched. Also, I don't see how the ending can be anything but sad.
When you recently accepted your Emmy for outstanding supporting actor, you concluded your remarks with 'mahalo nui loa.' How has living and working in Hawai'i affected you?
One of the best parts of my job in Hawai'i has been my exposure to an unfamiliar culture, to the foreignness of the place. It's a pleasure not just to take in this amazing landscape, but to try to begin to absorb some of the infinite subtleties of the way Hawaiians think and speak, make music and socialize.
What are some of your favorite haunts on the island?
There are great places all over the island. In Honolulu, I have my personal favorites — town, Sasabune, Nobu and Top of Waikiki for food, and I like Lewers Lounge and The Dragon Upstairs for music. I'm a city person from New York, and I like the energy of Waikiki. The Honolulu Academy of Arts is one of my favorite museums on the planet.
Ben Linus is one of the most complicated and unreadable characters on the show. Can you tell us anything that will help us to understand his motives a little better? Is he even a bad guy anymore? He seems to be ever-evolving.
Benjamin Linus is a man forced to be a grown-up before his time. He has a life-or-death mission and no time for recreation. Despite his ruthlessness and his manipulation, I think he may turn out to be a hero. I have never known where the character was headed — it's part of the fun of playing the part.
ABC just came out with "Flash Forward." It seems to have a lot of the same characteristics of "Lost." When all is said and done, what do you think the impact of "Lost" will be on television?
"Lost" seems to me to be a very influential program at this time. How it will be judged in the future is hard to say. It has certainly suggested that there is global interest in a good allegorical mystery with science-fiction dimensions.
Are there any spinoffs of "Lost" in the works or talks of doing one? Would you want to continue with Linus?
I have heard the writers say that this is the end of the line for "Lost." I will be happy to put Benjamin to rest if the show has as satisfying a conclusion as I expect. (So many roles, so little time!)
Tell us about Michael Emerson, pre-"Lost," and how the series has affected your career.
Michael Emerson, pre- "Lost," was a reputable stage actor from New York who had somehow won an Emmy but hadn't much TV experience. He is now more visible (conspicuous?) than he ever dreamt and has the enviable (but treacherous) job of choosing the next role.
What's next for Michael Emerson? Professionally, are you looking for movies, another TV series or stage? Personally, do you plan to stick around Hawai'i?
When "Lost" ends, I will resume my life on the Mainland. I'll look for all kinds of work, and it would be nice to do a mix of short-term projects. I'll want to go back to the stage sometime soon. I miss the regularity of it, and I don't want to lose the knack.
Anything else you'd like to add?
I will never forget my time in Hawai'i — life has some unexpected surprises for us, and Hawai'i has been a big one for me.

Thanks to GregDean for the following.
Daniel Dae Kim and Michael Kelly have been cast in "The Adjustment Bureau," an MRC project for Universal Pictures written and being directed by George Nolfi. John Slattery also has been cast.
The story, which Nolfi adapted from a Philip K. Dick short story, centers on a congressman (Matt Damon), on the rise in politics, who meets a beautiful ballet dancer (Emily Blunt) only to discover that a strange organization is keeping them apart.
Kim (ABC's "Lost") plays a mysterious staffer at the Bureau of Adjustments, and Slattery ("Mad Men") is a high-ranking bureau executive. Kelly is playing Damon's best friend and campaign manager.
The movie shoots this fall in New York.
"Bureau" represents a rare foray into features for Kim. He has made appearances in such films as "Crash" and "Spider-Man 2," though he has kept to the TV side of the business because of "Lost's" tight shooting window and Hawaii shooting location. He is repped by APA and Lighthouse Entertainment.
Kelly, who appears in "Law Abiding Citizen," has the Hugh Grant romantic comedy "Did You Hear About the Morgans?" in the can and appeared in "Defendor," the Woody Harrelson dramedy that sold in Toronto. He is repped by Innovative Artists and Liebman Entertainment.

J.J. Abrams script in bidding war

A bidding war is raging over a drama spec script backed by J.J. Abrams.
ABC, CBS and NBC are in pursuit of the hot script by writer Josh Reims who first worked with Abrams on his WB series "Felicity."
The project, from Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV, centers on two spies working together who are also husband and wife.
The show, whose premise is somewhat reminiscent of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," sparked a bidding war the moment it hit the marketplace last week, with ABC, NBC and CBS jockeying up for the lead position.
According to sources, ABC and NBC now appear ahead in the negotiations to land the script.
The untitled project brings Abrams back into the spy arena that he mined with his ABC series "Alias."
Abrams, co-creator/executive producer of Fox’s sci-fi drama series “Fringe,” got a presentation order from Fox earlier this month for a half-hour project written by Mike Markowitz.
Reims is repped by UTA. Abrams is with WME.
