Josh Holloway Going From Lost to Avengers Movie Universe?

With Lost in the rear-view mirror, its core cast is cleared to move on to potentially bigger and better things. Sawyer himself, Josh Holloway, is rumored to be wasting no time in doing so.
Per Avenger News, Holloway is currently in discussions (or is that negotiations?) to play a lead character in an upcoming Marvel film. They don't name a source so take this one with the appropriate grain of salt.

Let's suppose for a moment Holloway does sign on. Who could be play? Some of the roles Marvel is supposedly looking to fill include Henry Pym aka Ant-Man and Clint Barton aka Hawkeye. Ant-Man fits in with the rumor as he is tentatively scheduled to receive his own standalone film and getting Holloway lined up early would open the door for the character to appear in 2012's The Avengers.

I'd love to see Holloway show up in Marvel's movie universe. The man has proven time and time again on Lost that he can act angry, hurt and funny seemingly without effort. If Marvel needs big personalities to stand toe-to-toe with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans, then Holloway should be more than up to the challenge.

It breaks my heart to tell you that yesterday as we were preparing to all go to the airport Nunu was struck by a car as she crossed the street. She died in my arms.

We are burying her in the Pet Garden at Valley of the Temple in Kaneohe. Nunu hated the water so we couldn't bring ourselves to having her ashes scattered in the ocean. Three months from now you'll be able to find a bronze plaque inscribed with just her name there. If you'd like to leave a flower or a toy, I'm sure she'd love it.

Please understand that I have turned off commenting on this blog because I really can't deal with approving them all. I did go through and label the posts that feature her should you want to go through them.

We love and miss her very much.

'Lost' Possibly Still Airing In Parallel Dimension, Desperate Fans Report

Thanks to clayton for the heads up.

NEW YORK—Desperate fans of the recently concluded television series Lost are speculating that the program is continuing on in a parallel dimension somewhere, and that alternate versions of showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are currently writing new episodes of the series. "It's very possible that a sideways world running concurrent to our own exists, and that a facsimile of myself is happy, fulfilled, and already gearing up for the season seven premiere of Lost," said 36-year-old Kevin Molinaro, who, along with more than 20 million other hopeless fans, has recently booked multiple roundtrip tickets from Los Angeles to Australia in hopes of traveling through a vortex in the space-time continuum. "I just have to find a way to get there. We all do." According to data from Google analytics, searches for "How to build/detonate/use a hydrogen bomb to open up a multidimensional wormhole" have increased 10 millionfold since the episode aired.

"Who canceled that got me here?" Ray Romano joked as the first of The Hollywood Reporter's Emmy Roundtable series began. Humor dominated the hourlong discussion in a penthouse at the Chateau Marmont, during which the drama panel poked fun at their wives, declared themselves narcissistic and told a major TV critic to "suck it." The Ten Most Memorable Quotes/Lines from Season one of LOST by Christopher Engelhardt

Thanks to Christopher Engelhardt a freelance writer for sending this to us to publish. What are your favourite quotes from Season 1?

The first season of the critically acclaimed hit drama LOST is arguably the best of the six season series. Especially because beyond the mysteries of the island—including polar bears, a smoke monster and the hatch—season one was the most character based.
From hero/doctor Jack, to drug abuser Charlie, from con man Sawyer to convict Kate, and from soldier Sayid to soul searcher John Locke, LOST featured some of the most complex and captivating characters on TV for six years. And sometimes it wasn’t so much what they did that was memorable, but what they said. Here’s a compilation of the ten most memorable quotes/lines from season one of LOST.

    Episode 2: “Pilot-Part 2”

Sayid, Boone, Shannon, Kate, and Charlie decide to head to higher ground to send out a signal with the transceiver. Sawyer decides to join them.
Kate: “You decided to join us.”
Sawyer: “I’m a complex guy, sweetheart.”

Locke and Walt speak about the origins of the backgammon board game.
Locke: “Two players. Two sides. [Holds piece] One is light. [Holds piece] One is dark.”

    Episode 4: “Walkabout”
Michael and Kate return from boar hunting; Hurley helps Michael, who injured his leg after being attacked by a boar. Sawyer approaches Kate.
Sawyer: “The mighty huntress returns. What’s for dinner, hun?”

Arguably the finest John Locke episode, a travel agent argues with Locke about his ‘condition’ and his not being able to attend the walkabout.
Locke: “My condition is not an issue. I’ve lived with it for four years. It’s never kept me from doing anything.”
Agent: “Unfortunately, it is an issue for our insurance company. I can’t keep the bus waiting any longer. It isn’t fair to the other people.”
Locke: “Don’t talk to me about fair!”
Agent: “I’ll get you on a plane back to Sydney on our dime. That’s the best I can do.”
Locke: “No, I don’t want to go back to Sydney. Look, I’ve been preparing for this for years. Just put me on the bus right now. I can do this.”
Agent: “No, you can’t.” [Walks Away]
Locke: “Hey, hey! Don’t you walk away from me. You don’t know who you’re dealing with. Don’t ever tell me what I can’t do! Ever!”

    Episode 5: “White Rabbit”
Jack renders a grand speech, and sums up his philosophy on survival and teamwork with one of the greatest lines from season one.
Jack: “If we can’t live together, we’re gonna die alone.”

    Episode 8: “Confidence Man”
Kate confronts Sawyer about Shannon’s inhalers.
Kate: “What do you want, Sawyer?”
Sawyer: Freckles, I got so many answers to that question, I wouldn’t even know where to start.

    Episode 9: “Solitary”
Hurley, searching for a way to allow the castaways to de-stress, comes across a set of golf clubs.
    Hurley: “Whoa. Dude.”

Episode 12: “Whatever The Case May Be”
Sawyer tries to pick the lock of Kate’s suitcase. One of the hair pins springs out of his grasp.
    Sawyer: “Son of a bitch!”

    Episode 19: “Deus Ex Machina”
Locke’s inability to open the newly discovered hatch leads to one of the season’s most epic moments: Locke pounding on the hatch door.
Locke: “I’ve done everything you wanted me to do, so why did you do this, to me!”

    Episode 24: “Exodus, Part 2”
Jack and Locke’s classic discussion about science and faith in the jungle leads to Locke expressing his belief that it’s destiny that the Island has brought all of the Oceanic 815ers together. This triggers an unexpected response from Jack, and a mind-blowing response from Locke.
Jack: “You talk with Boone about destiny, John?”
Locke: “Boone was a sacrifice that the island demanded.”

Thanks to BookhouseBoy for the heads up.

The trailer is now online for the movie "Morning Glory," which will be the first post-LOST movie from Bad Robot when it hits theaters on November 12, 2010. "Morning Glory" is a comedy about a network morning show very much in the tradition of "The Today Show," and stars Harrison Ford as an aging newsman forced to take on a new job, Rachel McAdams as his producer, Diane Keaton as his cohost, Patrick Wilson as her boyfriend, and also Jeff Goldblum. There are a few LOST connections here: Harrison Ford was obviously Han Solo from the frequently referenced Star Wars movies, Patrick Wilson starred in the "Watchmen" movie (based on the graphic novel which has been cited as an influence on LOST), and Jeff Goldblum is currently dating the much, much younger Tania Raymonde, AKA Alex Rousseau. "Morning Glory" was produced by J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk, written by Aline Brosh McKenna ("The Devil Wears Prada"), and directed by Roger Michell ("Notting Hill").

Thanks to BookhouseBoy for the heads up.

Former Lost producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are acknowledging that while much of the recently concluded show's mind-bending stories and puzzle-piece arcs were mapped out from day one, other stories and arcs were the result of action-reaction or were simply winged as needed.

"It was a combination of both those things," Cuse said in an exclusive interview. "There was a big, mythic architecture which included a lot of what's in the finale, in terms of where we end the show, that we knew way back in the beginning. And then, before each season, we'd have a writers' mini-camp and spend a month without any pressure of writing other scripts, figuring out the architecture of the upcoming season. That'd sort of take the artists' rendering and turn it into blueprints, and then, during the season, episode by episode, we built the structure. We allowed ourselves a lot of flexibility to change things around as we were doing construction. It was impossible to have everything planned out, and so it was kind of built in stages."

On the phone with Cuse was his writing and producing partner Lindelof. He stressed that while everyone was thinking long-term, they had to do so without being presumptuous. After all, many a show—Lindelof cited Twin Peaks—fizzled out after a wildly successful first season. "We didn't want to be of the mindset in the first season to assume that people would want to watch the show for six years," Lindelof said. "That's a gift that the audience gave us, to be able to do the show as we did. To sit down at episode eight and start to talk about what you're going to do in the second season ... The guys doing FlashForward, for example, were being asked about the second season at the upfront last year. It's good to have a plan, but at the same time the most important plan is making the next episode really good. That's the only job that Carlton and I and everybody else on this show has ever had."

Lindelof added, "Sometimes in order to make the next episode really good you need to have an incredible superstructure and the blueprints that Carlton is referring to, but at the end of day it really wasn't until we negotiated the end date that we could sit down and in a very detailed way say, 'This is exactly what we want to do over the course of the next three years. We know exactly how many episodes we have to do, and we think people will probably watch us for another three years if we're able to execute this.'"

Now that Lost is in the history books, Lindelof is moving on to co-writing the next Star Trek feature. Cuse plans to take a break and then will seek out his next project. Meanwhile, for all the closure and answers the Lost finale provided, it also left many story threads hanging. What the heck was/is the island? Where was Walt, and what powers did he have, anyway? What did the Dharma Initiative actually want? Who built the statue, and why? In other words, there seems to be plenty more story to tell.

Cuse, asked if he'd want to be involved if Lost ever returns in some form, replied, "That's like when they interview boxers at the end of a fight and they say, 'Do you want a rematch?' and the guy is going 'No mas, no mas.' We are so exhausted ... that the only answer we can give you is that we have no plans to do anything else with the Lost franchise after this show. We're not setting it up. We didn't invent a sequel. We have no expectations that we will continue to do anything with the franchise. Right now we are viewing this as the end of our storytelling with Lost."

Thanks to Howie for the heads up.

Fans of the hit ABC series "Lost" this week are stumbling onto a slew of bogus antivirus software scams that are using the much-anticipated series finale as a lure to rip people off and spread the very malware they falsely claim to subdue.

According to Panda Security, a flurry of socially engineered malware campaigns are using fake Web sites to distribute MySecurityEngine, a fake antivirus application that attempts to trick users into buying security software to remove nonexistent threats from their smartphones and PCs.

Along with the scareware come-on, MySecurityEngine also keeps users from accessing certain search engines, legitimate security apps and modifies the searcher that is displayed in the "Search" option of Internet Explorer browsers.

PandaLabs said some of the most common keyword searches leading to this latest malware trap include "Lost New Episode Stream," "Lost New Episode Guide" and "Lost New Episode Tonight."

"The Web sites displayed have nothing to do with the search carried out," Panda Security researchers wrote in a blog posting. "Instead of it, an image that seems to be 'MyComputer' is displayed with an alert message of infection after having scanned the system."

Malware purveyors aren't limiting their black hat search engine optimization (SEO) scams to the "Lost" finale. Panda Security is also seeing a spike in similar cons related to the death of Ronnie James Dio, the former lead singer of metal bands Rainbow and Black Sabbath, as well as previews of other popular TV shows, such as NBC's "Friday Night Lights" and MTV's "The Hills."

The story was much the same following the death of pop icon Michael Jackson, which provided a nice boon to cyber crooks, and will certainly escalate in the next few weeks leading up to the 2010 World Cup soccer tournament.

Panda Security officials are advising people to avoid clicking on any links contained in unsolicited e-mails, keep a close eye on the URLs they visit and generally anticipate that any breaking news or mass media event will surely usher in a ton of leeching malware sites.

"What continues to surprise us is the speed with which the numerous Websites are created and then indexed and positioned on the Internet," Luis Corrons, PandaLabs' technical director, said in the advisory. "As the screening of the final episode of 'Lost' approaches, we expect the number of malicious links to double or triple."

Thanks to Joel for the heads up.

Whether you loved or hated this past Sunday’s Lost finale (for the record, I loved it), there is no denying that Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse gave us a definitive ending to the series. The evil smoke monster was defeated once and for all, Hurley and Ben took over as island protectors and the majority of the surviving cast members made it off the island to start the next chapter of their lives.

While we know that ultimately these characters were all eventually reunited in a flash sideways “purgatory” upon death, we don’t know what their lives post-Lost entailed. So while Chris Kirkman will be around later today to share his insights and thoughts on every other aspect of Lost’s final episode, I thought I would take the time this week to speculate on how the surviving castaways spent their remaining years on this earth before ending up in Christian Shepard’s non-denominational ghost church …

Kate Austen, the only member of the famed Oceanic Six to make it back to civilization, uses her Oceanic settlement and her celebrity status to open a chain of self-defense schools teaching women how to avoid being captured by armed assailants. She has a brief fling with Sawyer, which fizzles out after they both find themselves thinking of someone else during sex (oddly enough, they both think about Juliet). With Sawyer out of the picture and Aaron returned to Claire, Kate decides to follow in the footsteps of countless other celebrities and adopts a child from overseas – Ji Yeon. After a week of being with Ji Yeon, she finds herself pining for Aaron once again.

Now that no more tangles can be added to the web of the Lost series, it’s finally possible to mull over the last six years and ask the really important questions. What made us willing to think through the puzzles? Why did we keep watching when we had no idea what was going on? Will there be a Geronimo Jackson reunion tour?

For answers to these questions, the Storyboard podcast takes a look at the most important part of Lost that you never see — the music. From Academy Award winner Michael Giacchino’s orchestral score, to the story of how Eddy Kitsis found “Geronimo Jackson,” senior editor Nancy Miller talks with associate research editor Erik Malinowski who wrote about the music that made Lost so much more than just another TV show in the May issue of Wired magazine.

Thanks to Joan for the following.

We are Playsteria, a new game and entertainment development company. We've recently started developing games and entertainment apps for the iPhone and the iPad, and we've just released a new entertainment app about LOST.
We have a free app called "Unlockies" where people can merge 9 different character faces to create their own funny characters and then set the image to it's unlock screen wallpaper. Most people are downloading it because it's free and can offer some funny to share them with friends or even through Facebook (we've added this option too), and we've decided to release a new version of this app based on LOST. That is, "Unlockies: LOST Edition" is now in the app store to be downloaded for free for every LOST fan. There you can merge 8 LOST character's faces: Locke, Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Hugo, Jin, Sun and Sayid and then put them as your wallpaper or simply show it through Facebook to see your own funny creations. Can you image, for example, Locke's face with Sayid's hair and Sun's mouth? Sounds crazy, huh?
We are mailing some LOST blogs to let people know about this free app and encourage them to download and have a funny time trying it's own combinations. That's why we will be really pleased if you decide to post something about our app in your blog.

You can check out the app's iTunes link:
And you can also check out our webpage to see other games we've made: http://www.playsteria.com

We encourage you to try the app, and we hope you enjoy with it! Thanks for your time!

BitTorrent Download Record Shattered By Lost Series Finale
    View Comments

The finale of Lost has shattered all previous download records on BitTorrent. In less than a day, close to a million people have downloaded the last two episodes, with more than 100,000 people sharing a single torrent at the same time. As expected, most downloads come from outside the US where the finale aired later or has yet to air on television.

Last year, Lost achieved the questionable honor of being the second most-pirated TV-show on BitTorrent. With more than 6 million downloads for a single episode, Lost was only trailing Heroes by a few thousand downloads.

There is no doubt that the final season of the show will again be a strong contender in 2010’s list. On average, an episode of Lost is downloaded nearly 1.5 million times in the first week after its appearance on BitTorrent, but there is an overwhelming demand for the series finale which aired on Sunday.

In the first 20 hours after they appeared on BitTorrent, the final two episodes were downloaded a little over 900,000 times, an amount expected to increase to four or five million by the and of the week. As far as we know, this is a new download record for BitTorrent in such a short time frame.

One of the main reasons why people turn to BitTorrent for missed TV-shows is because they air significantly later in their home country. In an attempt to take this incentive away Lost’s finale was aired in 59 countries simultaneously, or within 48 hours of the US broadcast.

Whether the narrower release window has indeed decreased piracy is hard to say. What we do see is that there is a huge demand for the Lost finale in Australia, as 15% of all downloaders come from down under. Coincidentally, the season finale is scheduled to air in Australia this Wednesday.

Another factor that contributed to the high number of downloads globally is all the fuss about the season ending. Undoubtedly, people who missed it will be more inclined to download the final episodes compared to those mid-season.

It will be interesting to see if Lost’s new download record can be broken in the future.

Walt and the End Wreckage Sequence Explained

Update: 25th May Here is a little update on the Wreckage Sequence.

You know those Oceanic 815 plane crash images that ran after Jack's (Matthew Fox) eye closed and the "Lost" logo appeared on our TV screens? Some "Lost" fans and TV critics have wondered if they were a last Easter egg from the producers, a clue meant to lead us to conclude that no one survived Oceanic 815's crash landing — and therefore everything we've seen over the last six years never really happened.

Well, ABC wants to clear the air: Those photographs were not part of the "Lost" story at all. The network added them to soften the transition from the moving ending of the series to the 11 p.m. news and never considered that it would confuse viewers about the actual ending of the show.

"The images shown during the end credits of the 'Lost' finale, which included shots of Oceanic 815 on a deserted beach, were not part of the final story but were a visual aid to allow the viewer to decompress before heading into the news," an ABC spokesperson wrote in an e-mail Tuesday.

That means, Losties, that we were not supposed to think that Christian Shepherd (John Terry) is a liar. What Christian told his son, when they were reunited at the church, should serve as guidance for our interpretation of the series' ending.

So let's review: Christian told Jack that he was dead and everyone else in the church was too — some had died before Jack, as we already knew, and some died long after. The sideways flashes then were a step in everyone's after-lives, a way to reconnect before moving on permanently. While there still may be unanswered questions related to that religious and spiritual conclusion to the "Lost" story, the photographs were really just a nostalgic, transitional touch added by ABC executives — and not executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.

Love or hate it, that's the final answer.

Thanks to b3rt4 for the heads up.

Question about the ‘Lost’ finale: I thought we were supposed to see Walt one last time? Did something change? – Craig
You perhaps got wind of what ‘Lost’ boss Carlton Cuse said at last week’s Times Talk Live event: “You will actually see Malcolm [David Kelley], when all is said and done.” But he wasn’t necessarily referring to the series finale that was broadcast on Sunday. So yes, they did find a way to reintroduce (a grown) Walt, but you’ll have to wait for the Season 6 DVD extras.

My friends and I are debating the significance of the wreckage shown during the ‘Lost’ finale’s closing credits. Was that the plane Lapidus was flying everyone off the island on? Or was that Oceanic 815, meaning everyone died in the original crash? – Leah
It was C) Not quite any of the above. While many have sought to read something into the serene image of the Oceanic 815 wreckage, sources assure me that coda was chosen strictly to serve as a “buffer” between the finale’s mind-bending final act and the local newscast to come.

Q&A: Michael Emerson On The 'Lost' Finale & What Comes Next

Thanks to Donna for the heads up.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- More than 13.5 million people tuned in for the series finale of "Lost" on ABC on Sunday night and while there were plenty of surprises in the two-and-a-half-hour show, one of the biggest was Benjamin Linus making it until the very end.

While fans were surprised, so was actor Michael Emerson -- who plays Ben -- when he found out that his island-obsessed character - the series' most polarizing figure -- found his way into one of the final scenes. To refresh your memory, he was found sitting on a bench outside the church, where Dr. Jack Shephard reunited with his friends on the other side.

On Monday, the morning after watching the season finale at home in Los Angeles with friends, and where he admitted to getting a little misty-eyed, Michael spoke with AccessHollywood.com about his post-mortem thoughts on the end of the beloved television series - and why Ben never made it inside the church.

Access: Now that you can talk about it freely, were you surprised Ben made it to the end?
Michael: I never expected him to go all the way to the end and to still be standing or sitting, so I was pleased about that and I was delighted with the way they resolved the Ben storyline, to leave him in the middle zone, to leave him unresolved.

You had to play both good and bad on the series finale. Difficult to jump back and forth?
Not too much. I mean, we've been doing that a lot on 'Lost' for many years, so I've just been in the habit of going with the flow and playing whatever was sent my way and I didn't worry much that Ben seemed to have made a deal with the devil in the previous episode. I think he was just trying to stay alive, you know.

And he thought it would help his singular obsession of ruling the island.
Yeah, that thing that he cannot let go of.

Before the end, Hurley became the new Jacob and Ben became his No. 2. We're you surprised he was able to take second chair or was he so desperate, he'd take anything?
I think Ben wants to do the work he felt that he was made for - he's been humbled over the last season or two, and yes, I think he's willing to take an assistantship if it means he gets to hold on and do the thing he feels he needs to.

And maybe because Hugo isn't a real threat in the No. 1 position.
I think Ben has had an epiphany about what good governance is or should be and I think he sees that he may not be a perfect fit for the top spot. That maybe No. 2 suits him better.

Why do you think Ben didn't get to go into the church with everyone else?
Oh, it makes perfect sense to me - that he's not ready. He's a long way from being able to let go.

A lot of people were seeing the church as a heaven or celestial sort of place, is that how you saw it?
Yeah, I felt like it was a waiting room or a staging area for the afterlife.

Did it end the way you expected it to, when you thought about the end several seasons ago?
I have to say, in the very early going, when I first came on the show, I thought this works for me if it's some kind of purgatory. But everyone dismissed the literal version of that idea, but it turned out to be a sort of metaphorical purgatory and I'm pleased with that. I don't mind that as a system or a notion. I think that that's satisfying.

Has the finality of the show sunk in for you yet?
It began to last night. Matthew [Fox] and I talked about it during the commercial break when we were shooting ['Jimmy Kimmel Live'] and he said, 'It's hard not to feel now, isn't it? This is the last day. These are the last comments.' And then we step off the cliff into forever, forever after. So yes, this last day is a day when it has hit home.

    How do you feel inside?
It feels like it has always felt when I've been in a good show and it's closed -- you're tired, you feel a bit washed out, you feel like you've stood too close to the light for too long, that you're a little scorched around the edges and that you need to go somewhere and be quiet for a while. I guess that's how I feel.

What was the last scene you actually got to film?
The last scene I filmed was a miserable one where Jorge [Garcia] and I are standing on top of a 40-foot platform that's been made to look like a waterfall. It's where he and I are pulling Desmond up by the rope. That's the last scene I shot. So it's not a very tender or reflective moment, it's more procedural. The work was hard, exhausting, dangerous and we were doing it at 5:30 in the morning after a 20-hour day and no one was in the mood for a party or a fond farewell, so it didn't make for a great last workday. You can't predict what you're going to be shooting in the moment.

I guess that's not the day you're feeling motivated enough to take something sentimental home from the set.
I hadn't the strength to take anything. Plus, there wasn't much to take. My costume has always been a set of bloody rags for the most part and I don't know, hand properties. I don't know what happened to that hand carved wooden statue that Annie (Ben's childhood friend) gave Ben, I don't know what's become of that. ABC came around and tagged a lot of things. I think there's gonna be a big eBay sale of 'Lost' paraphernalia.

Rumors have it you and Terry O'Quinn are working on developing a new series together?
Terry had a couple of really good, strong ideas and he pitched them to someone in the world of producers and they seem to respond to it. So I don't know where it's at or whether it will come true, but there's a good idea out there kicking around and if it comes to life, it would make me very happy.

So Terry was your on-set buddy?
Yeah, we were close and as you know, we had many days where it was he and I working together and those days were great working days, some of the best of my career.

So what are your plans for the summer? A return to the stage perhaps?
I think it's too soon to go on stage this summer. I have family and friends and domestic projects to catch up with. I'm gonna lay low for a while.

Your wife ("True Blood's" Carrie Preston) must be going insane and going, 'Garage! Kitchen!'
She's happy just to have me home and I'm lazy enough that it would suit me fine to be her personal assistant for a couple of months.

    I think she deserves it.
She does! That's a hard working girl. She works way harder than I do.

And it's probably not the most fun to have one's partner commuting for years.
Right. We're enjoying the luxury of being in the same place at the same time for a while.

Update: 26th May I've spoken to ABC and they have confirmed that this person did use to work for ABC as an Intern but were released 3 years ago.

This was originally posted in the Forums but the load crashed our servers lol.

Thanks to empire for the following.

This is making the rounds, not sure how true it is...but a worthwhile read if so

Good stuff on here! I can finally throw in my two cents! I've had to bite my tongue for far too long. Also, hopefully I can answer some of John's questions about Dharma and the "pointless breadcrumbs" that really, weren't so pointless ...

    First ...
    The Island:

It was real. Everything that happened on the island that we saw throughout the 6 seasons was real. Forget the final image of the plane crash, it was put in purposely to f*&k with people's heads and show how far the show had come. They really crashed. They really survived. They really discovered Dharma and the Others. The Island keeps the balance of good and evil in the world. It always has and always will perform that role. And the Island will always need a "Protector". Jacob wasn't the first, Hurley won't be the last. However, Jacob had to deal with a malevolent force (MIB) that his mother, nor Hurley had to deal with. He created the devil and had to find a way to kill him -- even though the rules prevented him from actually doing so.

Thus began Jacob's plan to bring candidates to the Island to do the one thing he couldn't do. Kill the MIB. He had a huge list of candidates that spanned generations. Yet everytime he brought people there, the MIB corrupted them and caused them to kill one another. That was until Richard came along and helped Jacob understand that if he didn't take a more active role, then his plan would never work.

Enter Dharma -- which I'm not sure why John is having such a hard time grasping. Dharma, like the countless scores of people that were brought to the island before, were brought there by Jacob as part of his plan to kill the MIB. However, the MIB was aware of this plan and interferred by "corrupting" Ben. Making Ben believe he was doing the work of Jacob when in reality he was doing the work of the MIB. This carried over into all of Ben's "off-island" activities. He was the leader. He spoke for Jacob as far as they were concerned. So the "Others" killed Dharma and later were actively trying to kill Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley and all the candidates because that's what the MIB wanted. And what he couldn't do for himself.

Dharma was originally brought in to be good. But was turned bad by MIB's corruption and eventually destroyed by his pawn Ben. Now, was Dharma only brought there to help Jack and the other Canditates on their overall quest to kill Smokey? Or did Jacob have another list of Canidates from the Dharma group that we were never aware of? That's a question that is purposley not answered because whatever answer the writers came up with would be worse than the one you come up with for yourself. Still ... Dharma's purpose is not "pointless" or even vague. Hell, it's pretty blantent.

Still, despite his grand plan, Jacob wanted to give his "candidates" (our Lostaways) the one thing he, nor his brother, were ever afforded: free will. Hence him bringing a host of "candidates" through the decades and letting them "choose" which one would actually do the job in the end. Maybe he knew Jack would be the one to kill Flocke and that Hurley would be the protector in the end. Maybe he didn't. But that was always the key question of the show: Fate vs Free-will. Science vs Faith. Personally I think Jacob knew from the beginning what was going to happen and that everyone played a part over 6 seasons in helping Jack get to the point where he needed to be to kill Smokey and make Hurley the protector -- I know that's how a lot of the writers viewed it. But again, they won't answer that (nor should they) because that ruins the fun.

In the end, Jack got to do what he always wanted to do from the very first episode of the show: Save his fellow Lostaways. He got Kate and Sawyer off the island and he gave Hurley the purpose in life he'd always been missing. And, in Sideways world (which we'll get to next) he in fact saved everyone by helping them all move on ...

    Now...

    Sideways World:

Sideways world is where it gets really cool in terms of theology and metaphysical discussion (for me at least -- because I love history/religion theories and loved all the talks in the writer's room about it). Basically what the show is proposing is that we're all linked to certain people during our lives. Call them soulmates (though it's not exactly the best word). But these people we're linked to are with us duing "the most important moments of our lives" as Christian said. These are the people we move through the universe with from lifetime to lifetime. It's loosely based in Hinduisim with large doses of western religion thrown into the mix.

The conceit that the writers created, basing it off these religious philosophies, was that as a group, the Lostaways subconsciously created this "sideways" world where they exist in purgatory until they are "awakened" and find one another. Once they all find one another, they can then move on and move forward. In essence, this is the show's concept of the afterlife. According to the show, everyone creates their own "Sideways" purgatory with their "soulmates" throughout their lives and exist there until they all move on together. That's a beautiful notion. Even if you aren't religious or even spirtual, the idea that we live AND die together is deeply profound and moving.

It's a really cool and spirtual concept that fits the whole tone and subtext the show has had from the beginning. These people were SUPPOSED to be together on that plane. They were supposed to live through these events -- not JUST because of Jacob. But because that's what the universe or God (depending on how religious you wish to get) wanted to happen. The show was always about science vs faith -- and it ultimately came down on the side of faith. It answered THE core question of the series. The one question that has been at the root of every island mystery, every character backstory, every plot twist. That, by itself, is quite an accomplishment.

How much you want to extrapolate from that is up to you as the viewer. Think about season 1 when we first found the Hatch. Everyone thought that's THE answer! Whatever is down there is the answer! Then, as we discovered it was just one station of many. One link in a very long chain that kept revealing more, and more of a larger mosiac.

But the writer's took it even further this season by contrasting this Sideways "purgatory" with the Island itself. Remember when Michael appeared to Hurley, he said he was not allowed to leave the Island. Just like the MIB. He wasn't allowed into this sideways world and thus, was not afforded the opportunity to move on. Why? Because he had proven himself to be unworthy with his actions on the Island. He failed the test. The others, passed. They made it into Sideways world when they died -- some before Jack, some years later. In Hurley's case, maybe centuries later. They exist in this sideways world until they are "awakened" and they can only move on TOGETHER because they are linked. They are destined to be together for eternity. That was their destiny.

They were NOT linked to Anna Lucia, Daniel, Roussou, Alex, Miles, Lupidis, (and all the rest who weren't in the chuch -- basically everyone who wasn't in season 1). Yet those people exist in Sideways world. Why? Well again, here's where they leave it up to you to decide. The way I like to think about it, is that those people who were left behind in Sideways world have to find their own soulmates before they can wake up. It's possible that those links aren't people from the island but from their other life (Anna's parnter, the guy she shot --- Roussou's husband, etc etc).

A lot of people have been talking about Ben and why he didn't go into the Church. And if you think of Sideways world in this way, then it gives you the answer to that very question. Ben can't move on yet because he hasn't connected with the people he needs to. It's going to be his job to awaken Roussou, Alex, Anna Lucia (maybe), Ethan, Goodspeed, his father and the rest. He has to attone for his sins more than he did by being Hurley's number two. He has to do what Hurley and Desmond did for our Lostaways with his own people. He has to help them connect. And he can only move on when all the links in his chain are ready to. Same can be said for Faraday, Charlotte, Whidmore, Hawkins etc. It's really a neat, and cool concept. At least to me.

But, from a more "behind the scenes" note: the reason Ben's not in the church, and the reason no one is in the church but for Season 1 people is because they wrote the ending to the show after writing the pilot. And never changed it. The writers always said (and many didn't believe them) that they knew their ending from the very first episode. I applaud them for that. It's pretty fantastic. Originally Ben was supposed to have a 3 episode arc and be done. But he became a big part of the show. They could have easily changed their ending and put him in the church -- but instead they problem solved it. Gave him a BRILLIANT moment with Locke outside the church ... and then that was it. I loved that. For those that wonder -- the original ending started the moment Jack walked into the church and touches the casket to Jack closing his eyes as the other plane flies away. That was always JJ's ending. And they kept it.

For me the ending of this show means a lot. Not only because I worked on it, but because as a writer it inspired me in a way the medium had never done before. I've been inspired to write by great films. Maybe too many to count. And there have been amazing TV shows that I've loved (X-Files, 24, Sopranos, countless 1/2 hour shows). But none did what LOST did for me. None showed me that you could take huge risks (writing a show about faith for network TV) and stick to your creative guns and STILL please the audience. I learned a lot from the show as a writer. I learned even more from being around the incredible writers, producers, PAs, interns and everyone else who slaved on the show for 6 years.

In the end, for me, LOST was a touchstone show that dealt with faith, the afterlife, and all these big, spirtual questions that most shows don't touch. And to me, they never once waivered from their core story -- even with all the sci-fi elements they mixed in. To walk that long and daunting of a creative tightrope and survive is simply astounding.

Jack Bender has found a new job working on a pilot

Thanks to Ben for the heads up.

Now that he's off the island, "Lost" director/exec producer Jack Bender has found another gig.
Bender has signed on to serve as director and exec producer on Syfy's "Alphas," a 90-minute pilot from scribes Zak Penn and Michael Karnow.

Bender just spent six seasons on "Lost" as the show's primary director and the head of its Hawaii operation. He helmed Sunday night's highly anticipated 2½-hour finale.

Production on "Alphas" will take place this summer in Toronto.

Syfy original programming exec vice president and Universal Cable Prods. co-head Mark Stern announced the Bender hire. "His vision and expertise are perfectly suited to the project, and will truly elevate it," Stern said.

"Alphas" centers on ordinary folks who develop extraordinary mental skills. The team members work to solve crimes while balancing their personalities and backgrounds.

"Alphas" comes from BermanBraun, and is exec produced by Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun. It's a "Lost" reunion for Bender and Braun, who was instrumental in the development of "Lost" as ABC Entertainment chair.

Besides "Lost," Bender's credits include "The Sopranos," "Alias," "Boston Public" and "Carnivale."

Bender was an actor earlier in his career, and is a painter, sculptor and mixed media artist.

Eko Turned Down Finale Guest Spot

Why didn't Mr. Eko come back?

It's one of the most asked questions about Lost's final season. After all, everyone else returned! So what gives?

    Sources tell me exclusively:

Lost's Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje--who played the iconic Mr. Eko--was offered a guest spot in last night's Lost series finale, but he...wait for it...turned it down.

According to ABC and Lost insiders, Adewale was offered a hearty sum to do one scene in the last hurrah, but the actor wanted five times the amount that was offered. It didn't work out.

How and where would Adewale have popped up in the finale? I guess we'll never know, but he was definitely loved by many fans before his character's demise.

Eko (a warlord who pretended to be a priest in order to smuggle drugs) was the fifth character to die on Lost, after facing the Smoke Monster for a second time and getting attacked, and then telling Locke, "I saw the devil."

Producers have said their original plan was for Mr. Eko to stay on the show four seasons, but they released Adewale from his contract after only one season because he wanted off the Island.

    Leggo my Eko!

Would you have liked to see Adewale/Eko in the finale, or did it feel just fine without him? Comment below...

    Jorge Garcia Interview with Variety

Wowm what a wonderful post by Jorge!

    At 5 a.m. on April 24, I became unemployed.

I just wrapped my six-season run on "Lost." The job that went above and beyond anything I could have imagined was over.

When I auditioned for "Lost," I was just another out-of-work actor struggling to land a pilot. When I first went in to meet the producers, there wasn't any material for me, except a few sides they had for the character Sawyer.

I felt great about the audition; so great, in fact, that getting the part wasn't important because I knew I couldn't have done any better. Then I got the call that I was going to test, and that they were going to write scenes specifically for me. I remember noticing I was the only Hurley in the room waiting to test. I called my agent from the parking lot afterward and said, "I don't know what it meant but it felt like a good thing."

When I got hired I hadn't even seen the pilot script. All I knew was that it was a J.J. Abrams show and that it would shoot in Hawaii. I figured, if anything, I had just scored an extended Hawaiian vacation.

Moving to Hawaii was a dream come true. When I worked the magazine stand at Borders in Westwood, I remember seeing a picture of Kelsey Grammer in his Hawaiian home on the cover of Architectural Digest and thinking that having a home in Hawaii was a good benchmark for success. Not two months in my new apartment in L.A., I was trying to figure out what to pack for a show that I had no idea how long would last. Now six years later, I walk around my house trying to figure out what to pack from all of the stuff I have amassed in Hawaii over the show's run.

During the pilot and the first summer of shooting we bonded quickly as a cast. After all, not unlike the show's premise, we literally found ourselves on an island with one another. We'd go to each other's houses on the weekends and nights when we weren't shooting. When the shows started airing, we would usually gather at the house of whomever the show was going to feature that week to watch and congratulate each other.

We had no information about what was going on beyond what we read in the script each week. We knew we were making TV that was not like anything seen before and crossed our fingers hoping we would find an audience who liked what we were doing.

The series premiere brought in better numbers than we anticipated and I remember saying to the other actors the next day, "I hope you like it in Hawaii because we may be here for a while."

As the seasons progressed, moments of being recognized on the street grew exponentially. There was a time during season one when all I had to do was tie my hair back to become invisible. Obviously, that does nothing for me now; neither does wearing a hat and sunglasses. At times both Daniel Dae Kim and Terry O'Quinn remarked how they enjoyed disappearing when they were around me as I would be the only one getting recognized.

Hawaii has been a wonderful place to hide for six years. Sometimes I could almost convince myself that "Lost" was a just a little show I did with friends in the jungle. I always liked to think of us as the tinkers in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" until something would shake that fantasy and I'd be forced to recognize how huge the show was becoming, like getting nominated for a Golden Globe. J.J., always the consummate mensch, wanted my experience to be enjoyable and easy at the awards, so he gifted me my first custom-tailored tuxedo.

I think the time spent under the cast tent on set will be what I'll miss the most. We sang songs to Terry and Naveen's guitar playing, made valiant group efforts to complete a Friday edition of the New York Times crossword puzzle and played a lot of Scrabble.

My last day on "Lost" was also my longest: 20 hours. Without going into details, I can say the shoot was dangerous, physical and wet. But what could be more appropriate? How else could we end this epic show without an epic marathon night of shooting? At the end of it all we all remarked how we expected the end to be more emotional for us, but we were too tired to cry.

I'll admit I got a little teary with Matthew Fox. I thanked him for everything he taught me, including taking me on his trip to Japan to see Green Day that first summer of shooting. At the time, flying at the last minute to a foreign country was way out of my comfort zone, but then again nothing on "Lost" was ever in my comfort zone.

I stuck around after even after I wrapped to see the martini shot of the entire show. I could feel director Jack Bender's resistance to call "print" on that last take. In fact I'm pretty sure he asked for one more take to delay the inevitable.

I still don't think the end of it all has hit me yet. Maybe I'll feel it when the finale finally airs Sunday. Or maybe it will hit me when I board the plane at Honolulu Airport for the last time as a Hawaiian resident.

I have no clue what my next adventure is going to be, I just know this job is going to be a hard one to follow.

Thanks to Jeremy for the heads up.

So, how did you land the role of Danielle Rousseau in Lost and what was it like working with such a great cast and living in Hawaii?

I landed it on just a regular audition. I went to this audition and it was just supposed to be just one or two episodes. But then they obviously needed that role for the story, so I was occasionally in Hawaii, which was the most beautiful places on earth. It was wonderful to work with Naveen, especially with him, and I had a little chance to work with Terry O’Quinn, who is one of the most wonderful actors in existence. It was nice. The show is now ending, so we’ll see what will happen next.

What are your thoughts of your death on the show? Some of your fans were disappointed seeing your character meet a somewhat premature end, before proper resolution could have been made for your character.

I didn’t feel happy. It’s too bad, I thought that the character was so great, I loved playing that character and there was so much in that character. I just, I’ll just regret all those things weren’t developed, that’s my sadness about that.

There was a rumor that you chose to leave the show, is that true at all?

No, that’s not true at all. I don’t know where this is coming from, I loved being on the show and loved playing that role.

Danielle was a very complex character, and that evolved over the life of the show. When we first met her we think she is this very savage woman, but as we get to know her in her struggle we begin to empathize with her quite a bit and we find out that she is one of the few characters without a checkered past, one of the pure characters if you will.

As an actress was it hard to portray that evolution?

It was always present from the very beginning, the pain and the purity, the good intentions. I never saw her as this dangerous or even evil character, there was always much more to it. I didn’t see it as an evolution, I saw it from the beginning already.

I think a chance was lost with that character, I’m really disappointed and angry with those rumors, because I don’t know where they are coming from. Maybe it’s just an easy way to dismiss them.

What were some of the experiences you drew upon as an actress to portray that role?

Oh you know – my whole life. You draw from your life, you know. And I had a lot of stuff to draw, nothing specific, but everything that happened to me, and I tried to play with that

A very important Italian wine producer (Canella) that exports all over the world, has done a special edition of its famous venetian cocktail, Bellini, for Lost grand season finale!

The producer is a big fan of Lost as well as a friend of mine and she did the bottles for the occasion!

The cocktail is delicious if you don't know it, you should try it!

Top 10 WTF? Moments on LOST

One of the coolest aspects of Lost has been its ability to always pull the rug out from underneath us. Just when you think you’ve figured out what’s going on, something so crazy happens that you’re forced to toss out your old hypotheses and start theorizing from scratch.

Now that The End is finally upon us, we’re counting down the top 10 Lost moments that had us scratching our heads, jumping off our sofas and screaming, “WHAT THE F&$%?!” at our television sets.

The moment you’re probably expecting to be No. 1 isn’t actually on this list: the famous flash-forward revelation in the season 3 finale "Through the Looking Glass." Enough has been written about Jack’s rendezvous with Kate at LAX that helped reinvent the show, but let’s be honest: Jack using a Razr phone was a pretty damning clue that the episode was taking place in the present and not the past. It actually took us out of the episode. In addition, we're not including any of the happenings of this past season to keep the focus on the wondrous moments that have kept us engaged in ABC's twisted Sci-fi tale over the last six years (though there's been plenty of WTF this year, what with man-beast Smoke Monsters and alternate realities). So while those “shockers” aren't included, it does lead nicely into No. 10…

Josh Holloway - Men's Health Interview

Thanks to Annie and Judy for the heads up.

Lost hunk Josh Holloway is the June cover boy for Men's Health mag and he has plenty to say about Hawaii, family and beer guts:

On adjusting to ocean life in Hawaii: "I almost peed my pants, if I can say that. I've been out there in conditions I should not have been out there in. I've learned a lot from this ocean, and I have a lot more to learn. If you're going to be taunting her in that way, she will smack you down. You can never disrespect the ocean."

On being a family man: "As men, we protect and provide by our nature. And when we find something bona fide and validated, it's hard to break out of. ... I always wanted a wife and child, so I geared my life that way."

What's next: "I like the growth that happens to an artist in transition. A lot of growth takes place throughout your insecurities, through having to reevaluate something you thought was working and finding a way to make it work differently. All of that is very uncomfortable."

On getting older: "I love the comfort zone. In my mind, I am a 70-year-old man with a fly rod in one hand and a beer in the other. But that's not the world of creativity. I'm not saying you can't enjoy the comfort when you've found a zone. But you must always evolve."

On having the requisite beer gut at 70: "I will be! And I'll be unapologetic. You want to do a Men's Health cover then? I would be happy to show you my Buddha gut, because it will certainly be out. And I will have earned it."

Thanks to Stephen for the following.

I am a huge fan of Lost and regular user of the Dark UFO fanblog. I wrote an article about Lost and the iPhone/iPad for the mobile-app website Appolicious that I might be of interest to you--I linked to Dark UFO's books page in the story. I didn't want to just post it in one of the forums without permission, because it would seem like I am gaming the site.

Is there any particular section I should post it?

Here's a link to the article:
