Thanks to BookhouseBoy for the heads up.
J.J. Abrams has purchased the rights to the book Boilerplate: History's Mechanical Marvel and will oversee the film adaptation, reports Heat Vision.
The book, 170 pages of text with 350 illustrations and photo manipulations, was written by Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett and relates the adventures of a robot built in the Victorian age who, through its travels, meets all manner of famous historical personalities throughout it's century-spanning existence.
Originally pitched as a graphic novel, the authors spent a decade compiling Boilerplate's (the robot's) history online, evolving Boilerplate's history into a guide called The History of Robots in the Victorian Era, attempting to establish the character's presence throughout various famous historical events.

Thanks to BookhouseBoy for the heads up.
Damon Lindelof has taken his first big solo screenwriting job since concluding the ABC series Lost. I’m been told that he closed a deal to do rewrite work on 20th Century Fox’s Alien prequel, which the studio hopes Ridley Scott will direct as his next assignment.
In a development as vexing as a Lost plotline, studio insiders said that while Lindelof indeed met with Scott and the studio for that rewrite job, the exchange of ideas between them sparked a take that could well turn out to be a free-standing science fiction film. The studio will decide when Lindelof turns it in. Scott Free is producing and Lindelof's CAA reps closed his deal last night.
Lindeloff is currently writing with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci Paramount’s Star Trek sequel, on which Lindelof is a producer. He also teamed with Kurtzman and Orci to write the Jon Favreau-directed Cowboys and Aliens, which is shooting now with Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford.
That’s plenty of action, but I’m told that Lindelof jumped at this opportunity because Scott's 1979 space thriller Alien was such a seminal influence on him. Resuscitating the Alien franchise has been a big priority for Fox, which has a script by Jon Spaihts, who wrote the Gabriele Muccino-directed Keanu Reeves-starrer Passengers for Morgan Creek, and whose drafts on the Alien film persuaded Scott to move from producing the film to directing it.
Scott has several possibilities for his next slot. That includes the Fox 2000 film Gucci, which has Angelina Jolie circling the femme fatale role of Patrizia Reggiani, who drew a 29-year prison sentence after being convicted of plotting the murder of her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci, after he'd taken control of the family dynasty. There is also an adaptation of the Justin Cronin bestseller The Passage that John Logan is scripting for Fox 2000, and Scott recently come aboard as director on The Wolf of Wall Street, which Leo DiCaprio plans to star in and produce with Martin Scorsese and Scott Free. That project has yet to land, but it has a solid script by Boardwalk Empire’s Terry Winter.

Thanks to thedemonhog for the heads up.
One of the weirdest mysteries surrounding the quirky "Lost" is how it will fare at this year's Emmys, where it's nominated for 12 awards, including best drama series.
"Lost" has a serious shot at winning the same top prize it claimed after its freshman season (2005). Voters like to bestow a farewell hug to milestone TV series – like "The Sopranos" in 2007 — and recent juggernaut "Mad Men" is vulnerable. Lots of voters would like to see a new show win best drama series. In addition to "Lost," "Dexter" and "The Good Wife" pose serious threats too. It's a four-way, squeaker race, as most pundits see it, and "Lost" could certainly emerge the next champ.
But "Lost" has had a bizarre history at the Emmys, as I discussed with producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse when we met up recently at the Hollywood Museum. What do they think of that? What strategy did they employ this year in terms of episode submissions to Emmy judges?

Thanks to Kaitlyn for the heads up.
If you’re a fan of "Lost," you know that well-placed books were just some of the many clues (and red herrings) that the producers tossed in to heighten the mystery. Some of the books speak directly about the castaways’ situation, while others are more philosophical. The books on this list were all referenced on the show in some way, whether being read by a character or student, glimpsed quickly on a shelf, or just used as thematic inspiration. Digging into them might not solve any of the series’ lingering mysteries, but it will get you closer to the action.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll
Could there be a better way to get into the world of "Lost" reading than the classic tale of a girl gone down a rabbit hole into a bizarre dreamworld? The book appeared in the fourth season’s "Something Nice Back Home," when Jack read it to young Aaron, and the story’s elements also popped up in episode titles like "White Rabbit" and "Through the Looking Glass." (Poor Charlie.)
A Brief History of Time, Stephen Hawking
Stephen Hawking’s book helped bring science to those without advanced math or training, and it explored tricky concepts like black holes and the origins of the universe in simple language. The book’s parallels with the series are obvious, and it appeared in Ben’s bedroom in "The Man From Tallahassee," and we also saw Aldo reading it while he was guarding the kidnapped Karl.

The trailer for "Faster" is up, starring Dwayne Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton and Maggie Grace (Shannon from LOST). Johnson plays an ex-convict out to avenge his brother's murder, and Maggie Grace plays the killer's girlfriend. Although her name is never shown in the trailer, Maggie Grace's face is shown prominently towards the end.

Online Article
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - On the heels of his first-ever Emmy nomination and his much-buzzed-about departure from television after 18 years, Matthew Fox is finally getting lost.
Together with his wife, Margherita, and their two children, the 44-year-old actor is settling into a 10-acre ranch in Oregon -- a world away from his former life shooting the series in the Aloha state. He discussed his Emmy nomination, his plans for a post-"Lost" future and, of course, that final episode.
AN EMMY NOM AT LONG LAST! ARE YOU FEELING VINDICATED?
Fox: I had no idea the awards were being announced that day, but it's very nice to be recognized. I thought the show had a really great season, especially with expectations being so enormous. I think that's really saying something. I'm just looking forward to partying with the cast and raising a glass to the show.
THE SERIES FINALE MET MIXED REVIEWS AMONG FANS AND CRITICS. WHAT'S BEEN YOUR RESPONSE?
Fox: Obviously, the show left room for interpretation when the white light poured through. I don't pay attention to how it was received. Damon (Lindelof, an executive producer) told me the ending two months prior and I was extremely moved. I thought it was absolutely beautiful.
DR. JACK SHEPHARD WAS ESSENTIALLY THE SHOW'S "EVERYMAN" CHARACTER. HOW DIFFICULT WAS IT CHANNELING SUCH AN ICONIC ROLE?
Fox: I put a lot of myself into him, so it was tremendously emotional. He started as the hero of the show and we thought the audience would be bored out of their minds if he were the knight in shining armor all the time. We wanted to take the first four years and destroy him. So, that's what we did. And in the end, Jack redeemed himself before he could move on; I think that's why I was nominated. It has more to do with Jack than anything I was doing for six years.
WHAT DID THE SHOW'S FIRST EMMY WIN IN 2005 FOR OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES MEAN TO YOU?
Fox: It meant that when the show won, a whole bunch of people jumped on the bandwagon that shouldn't have. To be honest, people felt like they were missing out, so they came, tested it and left. Then it was perceived that the show took a turn for the worst, and it wasn't. They weren't ever going to be "Lost" fans.
YOU HAVE SAID THAT "LOST" WILL BE YOUR FINAL AFFAIR WITH TELEVISION. REALLY?
Fox: I've done 300 hours of television. I've spent 12 years operating between two characters -- six years on "Party of Five" and six years on "Lost" -- and I'm at a point in my career where I want more flexibility. I want to call my own shots: when I'm working and when I'm not. It doesn't have anything to do with snobbery. Some of the best writing is on television right now.
IF YOU COULD STEP INTO THE CHARACTER OF ANY OF YOUR FELLOW LEAD ACTOR NOMINEES, COMEDY OR DRAMA, WHO WOULD IT BE?
Fox: Michael C. Hall's role in "Dexter" would be very interesting. To play a serial killer in a lead role, that's pretty cool!
