LOST Media Mentions - DarkUFO

Thanks to Richard for the following.

The death of Charlie Pace on the season three finale of Lost was undeniably shocking. The globe wept (or perhaps cheered) as the British rocker drowned, in the hope of fulfilling Desmond’s vision that will see his beloved Claire rescued from the island. This certainly isn’t the first time that a character on Lost has endured a tragic demise though…

The deaths of Nikki and Paulo made their somewhat marginalized characters into the stuff of legend. The double-dealing couple were so caught up in their diamond stealing shenanigans that greed got the better of them and Nikki unleashed a spider with paralysing abilities on her partner. Her move then backfired as the eight legged critter, clearly possessing a good understanding of comeuppance, plunged its fangs into her too. Both bodies were mistaken as corpses and buried alive in the sand before the effects could wear off. What a way to go.

Having miraculously evaded the initial crash on the island, Boone would have been quite right to believe he had a special affinity with aviation. Alas, he was wrong. When trying to use the radio transmitter on the small aircraft containing the heroin-filled Virgin Marys, Boone was doomed as the plane shifted from its precarious position perched upon a cliff and plunged to the ground.

His sister Shannon also encountered a freak demise, but at the hands of a speeding bullet rather than a plummeting plane. Having just hooked up romantically with Sayid, the blonde temptress made the fatal mistake of suddenly rushing out into the jungle in front of the edgy, trigger-happy Ana Lucia. Mistaking her for one of The Others, Ana Lucia fired her gun and Shannon was no more.

Alas, the killer was soon to be the killed. Plagued with guilt after suffering flashbacks about the time she shot a man dead as a cop, she found herself unable to kill the captured Henry Gale (aka Benjamin Linus) and handed a gun to Michael to do the dirty work. Bad move. As she lay chilling on a couch, Michael uttered the words “I’m sorry” and put a bullet in her with no warning whatsoever. In walks Libby – fresh from a bit of amour with Hurley – and the grief-stricken father of Walt finishes her off too.

If those deaths were sudden, then the downfall of Mr Eko was just plain surreal. Seeing visions of his slain brother Yemi, who effectively lost his life because of his criminal sibling, Eko wanders into the jungle and is confronted by the treacherous Black Smoke Monster. Thrown and tossed around like a ragdoll, his body is slammed hard into the ground and the lights are soon out.

The characters of Lost should learn one thing from the details of the demises listed above. If you’re racked with guilt and/or begin a bit of a romantic frisson on the island then watch your back!
