On Monday, October 19, Danis Tanovic, the Oscar-winning director from Bosnia and Herzegovina, will start shooting his new movie, Circus Columbia.
The movie will be filmed in the city of Capljina, in Herzegovina, where a pre-shoot press conference was held today. The film is based on a book by Ivica Djikic, a Croatian author born in Herzegovina. The main roles have been taken by two of the most famous actors in the former Yugoslavia, Miki Manojlovic and Mira Furlan.

"This is a love story that happens sometime at the beginning of this war," Tanovic told reporters, referring to World War II.

"This is not the type of movie one does for the money, but because this is a story that has to be told, or better to say, this movie has to be made," said Manojlovic, who has lived and worked in countries across Europe for more than a decade.

"I am very happy to be part of this movie, which is rich in its screenplay and should be good," said Furlan who lives and works in Los Angeles as an actress.

"We will start on Monday in Vipava, and I hope shooting will be finished sometime in December. We will have 40 working days," Tanovic said, adding that he is more than happy to be able to do a film of this type in Bosnia and Herzegovina, "something that ten years ago was impossible".

The co-producers for the film are from the UK, Slovenia, Germany, Belgium, and Bosnia.

Tanovic won an Oscar in 2001 for his debut movie, No Mans Land. The movie garnered 42 awards, including a Golden Globe and Cesar. His latest movie, which stars Colin Farrell and Paz Vega, was recently shown at the Toronto and Rome festivals.

He lives and works in Sarajevo.
