Daniel Dae Kim to star in "Andromeda Strain"

A&E has announced the star-studded cast for its upcoming miniseries presentation of "The Andromeda Strain."

Produced by Ridley Scott and Tony Scott, "Andromeda Strain" attracted a slew of familiar TV stars including Benjamin Bratt, Ricky Schroder, Eric McCormack, Andre Braugher, Christa Miller, Daniel Dae Kim, Viola Davis and Ted Whittall.

Production on "The Andromeda Strain" began on July 3 in Vancouver. Mikael Salomon ("The Company") is directing Robert Schenkkan's adaptation of Michael Crichton's bestselling novel.

After a U.S. government satellite crashes in a remote part of Utah, a deadly bacteria begins to spread, wiping out a small town with the exception of one old man and one infant. Why did they survive? Can those survivors teach a team of scientists how to contain the outbreak? And how will the military handle the spreading disaster?

Bratt ("Law & Order") plays Dr. Jeremy Stone, lead epidemiologist on the investigating team. Miller ("Scrubs"), Kim ("Lost") and Davis ("Traveler") play other scientists, with Schroder ("24") as a virologist with the Army's Medical Research Institute of Infectious Disease. Braugher ("Homicide: Life on the Streets") plays General George Mancheck, a US Biochemical Research officer. Complicating things, we assume, is McCormack's ("Will & Grace") Jack, an investigative reporter.

Robert Wise directed a 1971 adaptation of the Crichton novel.

The "Andromeda Strain" remake was originally announced back in 2004 as a four-hour miniseries for Sci Fi Channel.
