Daniel Dae Kim's attorney says plea is just a formality
“Lost” TV series star Daniel Dae Kim entered an initial plea of not guilty to a drunken driving charge Friday. Kim’s attorney said the not guilty plea was only a legal formality as his defense strategy is being planned.
Kim, who plays Jin-Soo Kwon on the TV show, was arrested Oct. 25 when a Honolulu police officer spotted him driving erratically. He had a blood-alcohol level of 0.168, more than twice the legal limit. He was the fourth actor on the ABC series to run into trouble with the law while filming in Hawaii.
Defense attorney Patrick McPherson said Kim is sorry for his actions.
“He made an apology to the state, the people of Hawaii and his fans,” McPherson said outside the courtroom. “He pleaded not guilty and requested a trial date.”
Kim did not appear with his attorney at the arraignment in District Court. His trial was set for Feb. 15. Kim’s driver’s license was revoked Nov. 16 for six months, said Ronald Sakata, chief adjudicator for the Administrative Driver’s License Revocation Office.
Kim, 39, portrays a Korean tough guy on the show who at first was overly protective of his wife, Sun, before he began to warm up to other characters on the mysterious island where “Lost” is set.
