Matthew Fox admits to taking drugs
Matthew Fox has claimed he is always taking drugs and frequently breaks the law.
Fox told Empire: "I break the law all the time! I've done plenty of illegal narcotics, but I think everyone knowingly breaks the law pretty often, don't they? I can't imagine living my life abiding by the law completely. That'd be tough to do."
Fox admitted that he and his wife, former model Margherita Ronchi, were "baked" for three days when they holidayed in Jamaica.
"My wife and I travelled to Jamaica 15 years ago. Oh God, it was a crazy trip! We stayed in this little bungalow out on the water, baked out of our minds for the first three days. We were just so stoned! And then we got sick and proceeded to continue to get stoned because that makes you feel better."

oh my, I love this guy! i didnt know he gets baked! thats something i wouldnt expect
wow. didn't see that coming. i wonder if he's still a stoner now...?
*Waiting for elizabetta's reply*
I am sure he is talking about 15 years ago.He is not taking drugs now,he said he was going to quit smoking ,because he is a father of two children.
I don't believe this atticle.Who is the interviewer btw?

In light of the interview he gave in Men's Journal last year, I don't see why anyone would be surprised by this one. Same kind of juvenile "I'm a rebel, I break the rulez, I'm so cool." sort of attitude. Ugh.
Wow. What a charmer that Matt Fox.
@limbo
:D
@everyone
I love this man and I know it's true, and I love him for this!
He's the way I/my husband are, the way I love men to be!
And probably because he's married t to a European or maybe that's just the way he is, he's very cool about all this stuff, about his habits, he doesn't tell lies like sometimes actors do. and then you find out horrible things about them. A fortnight with major spliffs sessions in Jamaica? It's no big deal!
And back in my old days in London when I was 19...*cough*...*cough*....well, everyone I met (we were all Uni students) did enjoy to get stoned or pissed (or both) almost every weekend!
And now almost all of us is married and have a regular life - well, here in Italy there's no such a pub habit and I miss it sooo much!
So, Foxy is really the best!
Could have really been an ideal partner ;)
Great tastes in music (a little less in fashion) a family man devoted to his wife, sometimes shy, sometimes not, sometimes moody, sometimes smiling all the time.
He's perfect!
The guy quit smoking, he's always busy with shooting Lost, obviously he's not stoned all the time, but yeah, go ahead with the bashing if you like...
I heard him say he gave up partying because of his kids and his responsibilities in an interview about a year ago. I doubt he's getting stoned still.
And it sounds too much like a tabloid story to take seriously anyway.
But everything aside, I certainly wouldn't mind getting stoned with him
@ elisabetta
fashion? care to elaborate? I personally love his jeans and T-shirts and leather Jackets.
@odul
But everything aside, I certainly wouldn't mind getting stoned with him
If you plan something, can I come too? please!!! :)
re. fashion
didn't you see that pair of WHITE socks in some of his OZ pics?
Black jeans, black shoes, etc and a pair of white socks...no way!
Of course, I forgave him because despite the socks he looked sexy as ever :D
Well, i hate drugs, but at least he wasn't arrested for DUI or got a speeding ticket, like charming Josh Holloway, Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Wathros, Daniel Dae Kim, etc. Let the man get stoned, i mean, i don't think he still does that. And it's not like Jack is getting stoned :P!
It's not like the cast of Lost is full of angels:
Mind you

After weeks of having microphones stuck in his face MF's edgier side finally surfaces. The guy shouldn't admit to these things because there are sensitive people who have lived perfect lives who don't like to hear about the imperfections of the rest of us, but I would suggest that those people try to reserve judgement until they have access to the full text of the interview and find out what he really said and in what context. I've seen so many interviews and listened to many audio interviews where things I heard him say ended up twisted around and sensationalized in print. I would also suggest that those that are offended by this try to go out and listen to some of the interviews he's done over the last month, pool them all together and then decide what kind of person you think MF is. I listened to one he did in Russia last night where he comes across as a very intelligent, articulate American whose main political agenda is what the future holds for his two young children. He spoke glowingly about the parents that raised him, about the wife that supports him and about the children that are his main priority in his life. He gave great insight into the Jack character, spoke highly of the show and his co-workers and had much praise and admiration for his co-star/leading lady.
Yes, it's easy and fun to read these scandalous tidbits of information on a celebrity and decide to pass judgement based on the little tidbits instead of the whole person and I would agree with anyone that says he should keep these things to himself, but he doesn't and never has, it's just part of the package and you can either accept the whole package for what it is or choose to be offended by it.
Either way, there's no right or wrong here, just lost of grey and trying to justify Matthew's comments by comparing him to the mistakes made by others isn't the way to go. Those people aren't bad people either, but have made bad choices and have nothing to do with MF's bad choices.
@katieb20022001
ITA!!! great post:-)))
do you think this interviews?

@ elisabetta
MEET US IN JAMAICA LOL
White Socks? Well I didn'T notice I usually check out his jeans and jackets and suits, but I will agree he should not wear shirts that make his neck look shorter than it is ;)

That's my point, they have nothing to do with this interview, i'm not trying to justify anyting, i'm just showing that he is not the first "lostie" to have a bad move exposed to everyone. Just that. MF is a great actor and we have nothing to do with his habits!
Hehe, after dozens of MF interviews repeating over and over the same stuff about FF, Vantage Point and Speed Racer this was an interesting one... I wish I could read the rest of it.
Personally it doesn't shock me in the least. I live in France and practically all of my friends (same age as MF) do it. It's not a big deal. And everybody is a lot more concerned about quitting smoking cigarettes (what is socially accepted) because of the children.
As long as he doesn't get an DUI and remembers his script the following morning is fine. I wish him a good time ;)
That said, it's really not a good thing to do when you are a student, because if it doesn't get you wild, it doesn't get you sharp either.
@Elizabetta
White socks??? That's a no no...
And I didn't like Evangeline Lilly's bag either... She can afford a nice one ;)
What?!!? He took drugs and you idolise him?? Does that make him cool?
Jesus.....
Cool has nothing to do with it, he had a good time years ago, so be it. I agree with mne as long as he does his job and does it right, he's entitled to some weed he did 15 years ago.
And he does it right.
He is taking drugs?. That is bad,realy bad!
He used to
"He used to"
Where did you see that he is not taking anymore?
here is the full version interview from Ros - thx :-))..Empire magazine - April issue..maybe you have scan???
Where is the wierdest place you've ever been sick?
My wife and I travelled to Jamaica 15 years ago. Oh God that was a crazy trip! We stayed in this little bungalow out on the water, baked out of our minds for the first three days. We were just so stoned! And then we got sick and proceeded to get stoned 'cos that makes you feel better.
Have you ever knowingly broken the law?
No comment. Yeah, all the time! I've done plenty of illeagal narcotics, but I think everyone knowingly breaks the law pretty often, don't they? I can't imagine living my life abiding by the law completely. That'd be tough to do.
How much is a pint of milk?
There's four of them in a gallon, right? A pint of milk, 16 ounces. Howmuch would it cost? In Hawaii, a gallon of milk is like $6, so we're talking $1.50. Buck 50.
When were you last naked outdoors?
Eight days ago. I'm naked outdoors a lot - I live in Hawaii - if naked outdoors means walking out to the pool naked and jumping and walking back inside.
What's your karoke song of choice?
Fake Plastic Trees, Radiohead. Thats a tough song! I like Radiohead a lot. I don't think I'm a great singer, but I enjoy doing it.
What happens when you die?
All the moisture leaves your body and you turn back into carbon and you fall back into [the earth].... Nothing else happens. That's it.
What's the most embarrassing CD in your collection?
I don't have any embarrassing CDs. I am such a fanatical editor, I go through my Itunes collection every month and nix everything I feel don't holds up. I'm pretty tough.
What's your nickname?
People call me Foxy, and in my family my Dad calls me Foo. My younger brother, who's three years younger than me, couldn't pronounce Matthew - he kept saying Ma-Foo, so my old man just took the Foo part.
What would your last meal be?
It would be my Mum's Thanksgiving dinner, which is your classic turkey...and she makes the most amazing stuffing and mashed potatoes and peas, and the gravy's really good. And homemade cranberry sauce, which is key.
What was the last Movie you walked out of?
I think there's a lot to be learned from watching a movie that doesn't work. So I don't think I've ever done that.
Who was your first movie crush?
Kathleen Turner, Body Heat. She was dangerously hot in that movie.
Who is the most famous person in your address book?
Susan Sarandon. I did Speed racer last summer and we're mum and son in that, so we got to be really good friends. She's awesome.
Ever had a bad experience on a plane?
No, I've been luck with that. I'm a pilot, I fly gliders, so I enjoy flying.
On a scale of one to ten, how hairy is your arse?
I love it! I love that question! That's the best question I've got! I'm gonna give it a 6.5!
John C. Reilly said only four...
I think he's definitely got a hairier arse than me, man! That's the thing you'd have to see what a one is and what a ten is and then you could get an accurate description. But I'm going to stick with a 6.5.
Good thing he has two kids who can learn from his open minded attitude... *rolls eyes*
I don't have anything against these drugs he's mentioning. I've done them myself. But coming out in an interview saying he enjoys breaking the law and smoke marijuana sure is a nice education to his children.
Curious that some people condemn Evangeline's lack of patience for paparazzi molesters and think this is so cool...
I'm still wondering if this article is true though. I wouldn't think Fox would be this stupid.
Ha I knew the question would give it a different view

"He used to"
Where did you see that he is not taking anymore?
"I've done plenty of illegal narcotics"
DONE!! Past tense, he doesn't say "I do"
Anywho. This is a article in a tabloid(probably), the reporter took a qoute from a article MF has done with Empire magazine (new one is out tomorrow, so full interview might be in there) and built a sensationalized story around it, that's what reporters do, it tends to sell papers & make people talk, something this guy has done pretty well by the looks of it!
Thanks Sulky!!
Thats what everyone got so uptight about, I was expecting a proper interview, But I loved that, sounds like a great guy to me :)
Bloody tabloid reporters, how anyone believes a word they write is beyond me....
"Where did you see that he is not taking anymore?"
When did you last see him smoking a joint?
DONE!! Past tense, he doesn't say "I do""
Hey calm down i don't say something bad. "The lost star claims he is always talking illegal narcotics". That is not PAST tense.
hulk said...

Sorry, didn't mean to sound so harsh..
Thats not Matthew, their the reporters words. Who I'm guessing, from my media studies, Is a Tabloid reporter, see the Q&A above, MF doesn't say anything about still taking drugs, that guy took a qoute and sensationalized it to write a more intersting story.Thats all.
The lost star claims he is always talking illegal narcotics.
Read the actual response from MF. He says "I've done plenty of illeagal narcotics", not do, but done. Much ado about nothing as I suspected, but people love to try to make scandal where there isn't any, just look at the number of comments this and the Evangeline Lily items have gotten, while the other items rarely get commented on at all.
I think that a gallon of milk in Hawaii costs $6 is much more shocking that learning MF liked to get high 15 years ago.
"Read the actual response from MF. He says "I've done plenty of illeagal narcotics", not do, but done"
You should read that "i break the law all the time".
Hulk said..
You should read that "i break the law all the time".
What difference does that make? There are varying degrees of "breaking the law", I probably break the law in some shape or form most day's, so what.. It's not like he's admitting murder, & I believe he's one of the few Lost star's, who hasn't been in trouble with the hawaiian police..
"I break the law all the time" could be doing 75 mph in a 55 mph zone, or walking outside without any clothes on, as he mentions later in the interview (and has been noted in several previous articles.) As usual, quotes out of context and tabloid sloppiness presented a different story than what he supposedly said to Empire.
Still, it's not wise of him to brag about any of it.
I love the fact that hes comfortable with admitting it, its refreshing to hear a famous face not be ashamed, you shouldnt be ashamed of smoking weed, theres really nothing wrong with that, its not like hes a heroin addict.
It makes me like him even more because that means hes open minded and the fact that he doesnt care who knows means hes a really down to earth guy, someone Id like to hang out with, and in hollywood, i imagine someone like that would be hard to come by.
"I think everyone knowingly breaks the law pretty often, don't they? I can't imagine living my life abiding by the law completely. That'd be tough to do."
I think about life exactly the same way. This guys just downright awesome for coming right out and saying that, being such a public figure and a rising actor whos becoming more popular everyday, to be this honest just says multitudes about his personality, he rocks! I wanna see you on the cover of high times matty!
It is unacceptable for me that a father of two kids takes narcotics and brags about it. No matter who he is. He should be killed of the show for this
x Elisabetta: ti sei fumata il cervello?
Ana Lulu and Libby were killed...now I'm thinking why don't he? It's worse what he did or he is doing.
Jack dies and nothing else happen to him :)
sluky thanks for the whole interview :)))
now it makes sense!!! that was a really fun interview... i liked it!
oh and anyone ever considered the possibilty that may be he was teasing in some of his answers?
im telling it just in case some of you guys might take all the answers too serious! :rolleyes:
this is foxy he does that all the time... (not talking about breaking the laws LOL)
dark since we have the whole interview would you please update it?
You guys need to get over the fact that Matthew Fox isn't Jack Shephard and thus not the saint you want him to be. Personally I don't think celebs should discuss their drug use publically but then again he was asked and he answered honestly (or so I'm assuming). Maybe the reporter shouldn't have asked but at least it wasn't the same boring questions he's always forced to answer.
Empire Magazine is not a tabloid. At least not yet.
Jesus. It's just WEED people. It's less harmful than alcohol, cigarettes and COFFEE. So what if he toked it back in the day? In fact, who cares if he tokes it NOW? Can't believe that some people still see mary jane as socially unacceptable. Grow up people.
"Illegal narcotics" is not just weed. Why would Matt Fox, a father, say these things? If he doesn't care what the public or his employers think of him that's cool. But his preteen children deserve a daddy who doesn't make light of drug abuse and the possible devasting effects it can have on a person.
@nunco congalves
My opinion:
Evangeline's reaction in that video = exaggerated, diva-like, not sponteanous, the opposite of what she professes to be like.
Foxy in his interviews, including this one: honest, laid-back, spontaneous, real.
I think she was a drama queen and I think he's a rare example of honesty.
@everyone
The fact that he's honest about what he did 15 years ago and he is a father, this is an example for all us parents.
How many parents lie to their children?
Why should they forget about what they did when they were teenagers pretending that they always led a perfect life?
I have the feeling that those parents have indeed many things to be ashamed of and therefore don't feel comfortable about their past in front of their children.
I don't know where you all live/come from but why are you all pretending that this is such a taboo topic?
Smoking a couple (or more) spliffs when you are 18 does not make a drug-addict and will not make you a bad parent when you grow up.
There are many important things parents should teach thier children, and teaching them some honesty is already a good start.
@simone
@freckles
I don't know how drugs are sold in the US, but what he meant maybe is that he used to take sleeping tablets which needed a prescription...I don't know, but this bit concerns me more than his spliffs!
Not being able to sleep well must be a real problem.
I don't really get what all of the fuss is about. So what he smoked/smokes weed. I am not ashamed to say that I smoke it myself and I am always quite open with everyone that yes I smoke weed. I see no difference between this and alcohol.
I realise that the Amercian view of pot is generally a bit more conservative, I am from Canada, where I have no doubt weed would be legalized if it weren't for the fact that we neighbour the U.S where they seem to look at marijuana the same as hard narcotics.
The fact is that a lot of responsible adults, including parents smoke pot, just like many do drink alochol.
How refreshing to see someone in the public eye being honest and showing that they are human like the rest of us.
yah guys lighten up. My parents smoked weed and did mushrooms when they were teens, as did most parents (i mean come on) and i smoke now as a teen, and we've talked about it openly, not as something negative but as an experiance. So it really shouldnt be something you hide from your kids anyways.
Doing drugs recreationaly and doing them constantly because your addicted is two tottaly different things. Doing plenty of different illegal narcotics (as he said hes done) is just fine, as long as its just a taste tester, hes obviously not addicted to anything harmful, hes just saying he's experimented. Most people who experiment with drugs (well the smart ones anyways) end up sticking to just good old marijuana, because its safe and non addictive.
Besides, whether your signed up for the war on drugs or your a regular tommy chong, just look at the facts, he's a pretty sucessful actor and seemes like his head is on pretty damn straight, so what if he enjoys to expand his mind once in a while, or even 15 years ago!? No harm no foul.
I think it would be hard to play a hardcore character like jack when in real life he's so mellow! haha hes a really god actor, and to say that he should get killed off because he did some drugs is just tottaly hateful and juvenile. How many great artists did drugs I mean really!
@queen z and dharmabeer
hats off! *clap clap*
So I am not the only real person on this forum. This is good!
I though I was surrounded by aliens.
Jack Dies in episode 5! Word is because TPTB heard about his drug use!
Having dealt with this in my life, I believe, Fox should be honest and open with his children when they reach an age they can put it into perspective. Hopefully his preteen children haven't had any experience with illegal narcotics. I would hope a preteen child wouldn't be told it's ok to experiment with illegal narcotics. But they are his children and he can raise them any way he wants.
your not alone elisabetta, but theres still a scary amount of aliens here though, and i dont understand it.
common freckles lets go smoke a joint!
only devistating effect ive had is extreme hunger
@dharmabeer
me also hysterical laughters :D
"So I am not the only real person on this forum. This is good!

You should realy calm down,you know!.Not everyone has the same opinion as you.
thats our point hulk
For me using drugs is a realy,realy sick thing.
well for me its fun :) have you ever done drugs hulk?
For all those who think smoking marijuana is "bad", I would be interested to know what your opinon on comsuming alcohol is.
Any substance that one abuses is "sick". Personally I think alochol is a much more dangerous substance than pot yet it seems to be much more socially acceptable.
"well for me its fun :) have you ever done drugs hulk?"
A bigg NO!
In fact I will probably have a few tokes tonight while watching lost. Hey maybe even a beer too! Hope that doesn't offend anyone :)
well hulk how can you be so against something youve never even tried? i know hulk hogan has probly done a few
hah yah queen z, this episode calls for a few i think!
yup, how many alcohol related deaths compared to marijuana related deaths, dont make me laugh.

something for all the haters to read

"On a scale of one to ten, how hairy is your arse?
Come on, with such a juicy question, are you still talking about weed here? :D
And I thought he was asked silly things when he passed here in France, like; does he pick on his nose when he is on red traffic light or does he change his underwear everyday? (yes for both :)
This is not about the pot guys, it's about some skaters/Jack-MF haters eager to bash. That said, this interview is funny, reminds me of that one Foxy gave Kristin a while ago. "Jack is going to die"
LMAO!
You are right vlaaf. It isn't about the pot or the Jack-MF hating. It is about the "illegal narcotics" and the fact he is a father to preteen children. I hope the "illegal narcotics" are in his way distant past, cause I don't wish anything bad on him, even if he would bring it on himself and his family.
This seems so hypocritical!!!
Matthew,I love you man! Go on,be yourself,enjoy your life.And be a normal guy like us!!!
@sluky
Thanks for the full interview.
@elisabetta
@dharmabeer
great posts!
Matthew and his wife Margherita Ronchi have two children together, daughter Kyle, 10 and son Byron, 7. Unlike some other celebrity clans, the family is rarely snapped together — a benefit of living in Hawaii, where the 41-year-old actor has been calling home since Lost started in 2004.
"We are raising our kids in Hawaii," he says. "For me and for my wife, it’s important that we keep those two worlds as separate as possible. I do the work, I go on a movie set somewhere, and there’s a short period of time where I’m sort of in the spotlight promoting the film. My kids are never really aware that that’s going on in any way."
For those worrying about his kids, they are separating his life and his spotlight moments away from the kids relax, and I'm sure he'll give the necessary talk if needs to when they're at the appropriate age.
So evreybody chill ...
Dharmabeer & Freckles, count me in.
i think this interview is great and really hilarious!!!
i love foxy!!! :)
It even got him in to the swedish papers. :D
http://www.aftonbladet.se/nojesliv/klick/article1949008.ab
it was even on perez hilton for god sakes!
noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
hahaha that's kind of hilarious
Hahaha, I actually like him now! Everytime I see Jack now, I'm just going to imagine him lighting one up. Man...
A little weed never hurt nobody!!
