Banff honors 'Lost'

MONTREAL -- "Lost" won the Rocky Award for continuing series at the first night of the Banff World Television Awards on Sunday. For the first time, The Rockies -- as the awards ceremony is known -- has been split into two nights, with the Grand Prize winners set to be announced Monday night. Twenty-three awards were doled out at the ceremony Sunday night in Banff.

ABC's "Lost" won for the episode "The Constant," which aired in February of last year.

BBC's "Beautiful People" won for comedy program and HBO's "John Adams" took the hardware for miniseries. The prize for made-for-TV movie went to "Skirt Day," a pic that aired on ARTE France.

Canuck entry "I Met the Walrus" won in the animation program category, Channel 4's "The Curse of the Mona Lisa" nabbed the top honors for arts & performing arts documentary, and "Habib: the Meaning of Life, The Ghost in the Basement" won for children's program.

PBS's "Heat" won for environmental program, the Paul Cowan-directed National Film Board of Canada production "Paris 1919," about the fallout from World War I, captured history & biography program, and "Oil For Fraud" from Maha Prods. and ARTE in France was the winner in the category of investigative and current affairs program. The award for lifestyle and information program went to the Canadian production "Family Restaurant: The Quons (Be Bold), Channel 4's "Peter Kay's Britain's Got the Pop Factor" prevailed as music or variety program, and another Channel 4 entry, "Dispatches -- Warlords Next Door?" won as political documentary.

"Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts" from BBC was named best reality format program, Channel 4's "Thriller in Manila" won in the category of sports documentaries and CBC's "Hockey Day in Canada" won sports entertainment program.

The winners were chosen from 800 entries from 29 countries and the ceremony was hosted by E! News Weekend's Arisa Cox. The 30th anniversary edition of the Banff World Television Festival runs Sunday to Wednesday in this tiny picturesque town nestled in the Rocky Mountains in Alberta.
